The No. 11 Kansas State Wildcats (14-1, 3-0 Big 12) will try to break down one of the country’s top scoring defenses when they welcome the Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-6, 1-2 Big 12) on Tuesday. Oklahoma State dropped their last game against the Texas Longhorns 56-46 at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Saturday.
Kalib Boone led the way in the loss with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and six blocks. The Cowboys slipped to seventh in the Big 12 Conference. Kansas State won their eighth in a row in a close one on Saturday at Ferrell Center, beating the Baylor Bears 97-95.
Markquis Nowell had 32 points and 14 assists, carrying the team. The Wildcats slipped to second in the Big 12 Conference. It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. Oklahoma State and Kansas State split their matchups last season, each team winning one. The Cowboys took the last meeting 82-79 at Gallagher-Iba Arena in February 2022.
Bryce Thompson led the Cowboys with 23 points. Markquis Nowell and Nijel Pack had 16 points each in the loss. Thompson and Avery Anderson III, averaging 12.1 and 11.1 points per game, respectively, are leading the Cowboys in scoring this season. Anderson III also has dished 3.0 assists per game. Meanwhile, Moussa Cisse is grabbing 9.3 rebounds per game.
Keyontae Johnson (18.8 ppg) and Nowell (17.0) have been the primary providers of the Wildcats’ offense. Johnson also has pulled down 7.1 rebounds per game, while Nowell has tallied 8.9 assists per game, second-most in the NCAA. Holding opponents to 61.5 points per game, the Cowboys are one of the best scoring defenses in the nation (28th).
