Pepperdine Waves (7-7) head to face the No. 10 Gonzaga Bulldogs (11-3) on Saturday to get their West Coast Conference schedules underway. Pepperdine was beaten by the Iona Gaels 76-66 at SimpliFI Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Sunday. With 23 points and eight rebounds, Maxwell Lewis was the standout player in the loss.
Gonzaga won their sixth in a row in dominant fashion on Wednesday at McCarthey Athletic Center, beating the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers 120-42. Drew Timme had 18 points and seven rebounds, leading the team.It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. Gonzaga won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was an 86-66 triumph at Firestone Fieldhouse on February 16, their 21st straight head-to-head victory.
Timme led the Bulldogs with 19 points, while Chet Holmgren contributed 18 points, 17 rebounds, and four blocks. Houston Mallette had 25 points in the loss.
Lewis is averaging 19.4 points per game to lead the Waves in scoring this season. Meanwhile, Jevon Porter is grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game, and Mike Mitchell Jr. is dishing 4.6 assists.
Timme’s 21.8 points per game have powered the Bulldogs on offense. He has the seventh-highest scoring average in the country. Timme also has averaged 8.2 rebounds per game. Nolan Hickman has recorded 3.8 assists per game.
