The No. 24 UConn Huskies (17-6, 6-6 Big East), one of the NCAA’s top scoring teams, head to face the Georgetown Hoyas (6-16, 1-10 Big East) on Saturday. UConn topped the DePaul Blue Demons 90-76 at Wintrust Arena on Tuesday. Jordan Hawkins was a top performer with 26 points.
The Huskies are sixth in the Big East Conference. Georgetown dropped a close one on Sunday at Madison Square Garden, falling to the St. John’s Red Storm 75-73. Primo Spears had 25 points in the losing effort, carrying the team.
The Hoyas remain 11th in the Big East Conference. The teams are meeting for the last time this season. UConn will be seeking a season sweep against Georgetown after coming out on top in the only earlier game 84-73 at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in December 2022, their fifth straight head-to-head victory.
Tristen Newton led the Huskies with 17 points and seven assists. Spears had 19 points in the loss. Adama Sanogo and Hawkins, averaging 17.3 and 15.1 points per game, respectively, have led the Huskies in scoring this season. Sanogo also has grabbed 7.3 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Newton is dishing 4.0 assists per game. Spears (17.1 ppg) has powered the Hoyas’ offense. Spears also has recorded 5.4 assists per game. Qudus Wahab has pulled down 7.4 rebounds per game. The Huskies are averaging 79.8 points per game, ranking as one of the most explosive offenses in the nation (29th).
