Morehead State @ #3 Purdue – 7PM ET

Tony Battalio

Morehead State comes into this game looking to grab a massive upset over Purdue here on Friday night on the road in West Lafayette. It would be a huge momentum boost for them if they could somehow pull off an upset of a top three ranked team in the country but they will need to play a near perfect game of basketball to get the job done here on Friday night. This will be their third game of the season, and they come into this game after picking up a victory in their previous contest. They have already played one power five program this season and it did not go well after they were blasted by Alabama in their opening game of the year. They will be helping to be much more efficient on the defensive end of the court after giving over 100 points to the Crimson Tide in their season opener.

Purdue comes into this game, looking to pick up their second victory of the season, and further establish themselves as the number three ranked team in the country. They’ve had several talented teams over the last several seasons, but this Purdue team might be the most talented of them all, and they will be looking to remain healthy and consistent throughout the early part of the regular season. They are expected to be the favorites in an absolutely loaded conference, and they are expected to make a deep tournament run as well as they come into this one on a short list of favorites to take home the national championship this season. They come into this game after a blowout victory in their opening game of the season against Samford and they will be looking to replicate that performance here on Friday night at home against Morehead State. That is exactly what I expect as I look for Purdue to not only pick up the victory, but cover the spread in the process.

SportsTips’ NCAAB Pick:

Purdue -26.5 (-110)

Indiana State @ #24 Alabama – 8PM ET

Tony Battalio

Indiana State comes into this game looking to upset the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road in Tuscaloosa here on Friday night. They will be looking for an early season statement victory on the road here in this game as they looked to build upon their season opening victory in their previous contest. They are coming off of a 30 point victory in their first game of the season and they will be looking to build on that against Alabama here on Friday but if they want to upset Alabama they will have to play a near perfect game of basketball in this one. They will have to limit turnovers, make their shots and control the time of possession throughout both half of this contest to beat the Crimson Tide here on Friday night on the road. Despite a winning season last year, they did not make the NCAA tournament and it has been a very long time since they’ve appeared in the big dance. They will be looking to break their 12 year drought with a successful season this year, and it starts with grabbing a huge momentum boosting victory over Alabama here on Friday night.

The Alabama Crimson Tide came into this game ranked inside the initial top top 25 rankings, and they will be looking to further cement their case with a victory here on Friday night at home against Indiana State. When you think of the University of Alabama, your mind tends to drift towards the football program, and the dominant Crimson Tide on the gridiron. However, over the last couple of years, the men’s basketball program is on the rise, and they have an opportunity to further cement their status as a potential contender in college basketball with another quality season this year. They come into the season with a potential opportunity to contend for an SEC conference championship in a loaded conference. They are coming off a season opening victory and they will be looking for their second consecutive victory of the year here at home on Friday night against the Sycamores. That is exactly what I expect as I look for Alabama to pick up a comfortable victory here on Friday night in Tuscaloosa and I expect them to cover the spread in the process as well.

SportsTips’ NCAAB Pick:

Alabama -17.5 (-110)

#9 Tennessee @ Wisconsin – 9PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Tennessee Volunteers come into this game ranked inside of the top 10 in the nation in the initial rankings of the season. Here on Friday night they will be searching for somewhat of an early season statement victory in Madison as they take on the Wisconsin Badgers here in this one. Tennessee is a team that has plenty of potential this season and they have an opportunity to make a deep run in the tournament as well as win themselves a conference championship as long as they remain healthy and consistent throughout the regular season. Tennessee comes into this game after blowing out Tennessee Tech and they’re opening game of the season and they will be looking to seamlessly handle this step up and competition with a quality performance here on Friday night against Wisconsin. This is the second of two Big Ten versus SEC matchups here on Friday night and Tennessee will be looking to help the SEC establish a little bit of conference dominance here in this one.

At one point in time many years ago, the Wisconsin Badgers were one of the top programs in all of college basketball. It has been a long time since then and Wisconsin has pretty much just been a contender, but never a serious contender throughout the years. They will be looking to rewrite the narrative this season, and it starts with grabbing an early season statement victory at home against the top 10 ranked Tennessee team here on Friday night. Wisconsin comes into this game after a season opening victory and they will be looking to grab a second consecutive win to open up the year in this early season marquee, match up against another quality power five program. After scoring over 100 points and blowing out Arkansas State in their season opening game they will be looking to carry the momentum over from that contest into this one and put up another explosive offensive performance against Tennessee here on Friday night at home. Unfortunately for Wisconsin I don’t see that happening as I look for Tennessee to grab the victory here in this one on the road.

SportsTips’ NCAAB Pick:

Tennessee (-125)

Yale @ #11 Gonzaga – 9PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Yale Bulldogs have been known to upset some top programs over the last several seasons, and they will be looking to do so once again here on Friday night in Spokane against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Yale is going to be the top team in the Ivy League this season and they will be looking for an early season statement victory here on Friday night against the top 15 ranked Gonzaga team. They are coming off of a blowout victory in their opening game of the season and much like every other team in the Ivy League. They play a well oiled machine team first type of basketball that tends to get the job done more often than that. They will be hoping that they can get the job done here on Friday night at the McCarthey Center against Gonzaga as they look to establish themselves as a potential Cinderella team early on in the season. They are led in scoring by Nick Townsend, who put up 13 points in their season opener on 85% shooting in a very impressive efficient performance. They will be looking to replicate that performance here in this game and pick up their second victory of the season.

After the last decade or so of fantastic regular seasons, and solid runs throughout the NCAA tournament, Gonzaga may have finally shaken the mid-major label they’ve been given. Although they don’t play in a power five conference in college basketball, and they don’t play football at all, they are still a recognizable brand in college athletics especially when they get on the basketball court. They will be looking to further push the narrative that they are no longer a mid-major, despite the fact that they play in a mid-major, as they still chase that elusive national championship. They come into this season, rank just outside of the top 10 in the country in the initial top 25 rankings, and they will be looking to make their way into the top 10 sooner rather than later, with a string of quality victories throughout the early part of the season. This will be their first game of the season, and they will be looking to come out on a solid note, and that is exactly what I expect out of Gonzaga in this one. As I look for them to pick up the victory in their season opener against Yale here on Friday night at home.

SportsTips’ NCAAB Pick:

Gonzaga -13.5 (-110)

#17 San Diego State @ BYU – 9PM ET

Tony Battalio

Last season, San Diego State was one victory away from winning the national championship when they lost to UConn. Now they come into this season ranked 17th and the initial top 25 rankings and they will be looking to play their way back into the national championship game and find a way to produce a different outcome this time around. This is a team that returns plenty of talent and leadership from last season’s team and they are off to a solid start this season and they will be looking to keep that solid start going with a victory on the road against BYU here on Friday night. San Diego State opened up this brand new season with a blowout victory over Cal State Fullerton and they will be looking to carry that momentum over into this game against BYU on Friday night in Provo.

BYU comes into this game after winning their opening game of the season as well and they will be looking for a crucial early season victory over a top 25 ranked San Diego State team here on Friday night at home. It would be an early season statement victory for BYU if they could pull off the upset over San Diego State in front of their home fans, and it would give them their second consecutive victory to open up this brand new season. They put up 100 points in their opening game of the season and they are hoping that they  can be equally as efficient on the offensive end of the court here on Friday night as well. As another 100 point performance would likely lead to them grabbing their second victory of the season. Unfortunately for BYU, I don’t see that happening in this one as I look for San Diego State to pick up the win here on Friday night.

SportsTips’ NCAAB Pick:

San Diego State (+120)
