This Big Ten matchup is huge for the Iowa Hawkeyes as they travel to Lincoln. Iowa will be looking to avoid a let down against a terrible Nebraska team in this one. Nebraska themselves don’t have much to play for other than playing spoiler.

The Cornhuskers are 11 points underdogs coming into this game and they have covered the spread in 7 of the last 9 home games. They have also covered the spread in 5 of the last 6 against teams with a winning record.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are 6th in the Big Ten conference with a 19-8 record. They have won 5 of the last 6 games and are coming off a 86-60 win over the Michigan State Spartans. Iowa has won 6 of the last 10 games against Nebraska including the last two. The Hawkeyes have covered the spread in 4 of the last 5 games but haven’t done so in the last 4 road games against a team with a losing record. The Iowa Hawkeyes come into this game ranked 25th in the nation. It is their first appearance in the top 25 this season. They are currently on a two game winning streak after knocking off Ohio State and Michigan State in their last two games. Iowa is 19-8 on the season and sitting on the bubble as selection Sunday is fast approaching. Iowa will likely have to win out in the regular season to lock in a spot in the NCAA tournament. They are currently sixth in the Big Ten with a conference record of 9-7. With a win in this game they could move into the top five.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have been one of the worst teams in college basketball this season. They come into this game with a record of 7-20 and they are sitting in the basement of the Big Ten with a 1-15 record in conference play. The Cornhuskers are currently on a three game losing streak at the moment. They have a shot to play spoiler in this one, as they look to dash one of their rivals’ tournament hopes. As for the result of this however, I can’t see it happening as I have the Iowa Hawkeyes getting the win in this one on the road.
Tony’s College Basketball Pick: Iowa (-650)

Assuming Iowa shows up for this Friday night showdown, this is one that can get out of hand quickly. The Hawkeyes enter this one at 19-8, and while I do think they’re a virtual lock to make the tournament field, a collapse that sees them losing their last three or four could certainly bring that into question. The good news for Iowa fans is that I don’t think they have to worry about that, as two of their last four come against Northwestern, and Nebraska in this one, both teams that just aren’t very good. They also come into this one on a two game winning streak, with decent wins over Ohio State and Michigan State in that stretch, which should boost their confidence.
On the other sideline, the Nebraska Cornhuskers just aren’t good. They come in as the worst team in the Big Ten at 7-20, and it’s not getting any easier for them as they round out the year. They take on one of the best teams in the conference in this one, and while they are playing this one in Lincoln, I just don’t see a way that home court advantage makes up for the disparity on the court. Give me the Hawkeyes with ease, as they hit the road for this matchup.
