The No. 8 Xavier Musketeers (15-3, 7-0 Big East), one of the NCAA’s top scoring teams, head to face the DePaul Blue Demons (8-10, 2-5 Big East) on Wednesday.
Xavier topped the Marquette Golden Eagles 80-76 at Cintas Center on Sunday, their 11th consecutive win. Jack Nunge was a top performer with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks. The Musketeers are first in the Big East Conference.
DePaul lost on Saturday at Wintrust Arena, falling to the Seton Hall Pirates 71-67. Da’Sean Nelson had 15 points in defeat to lead the team. The Blue Demons slipped to ninth in the Big East Conference. The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Xavier and DePaul split their matchups last season, taking one apiece.
The Blue Demons earned the win in the last meeting 69-65 at Cintas Center in February 2022. Courvoisier McCauley led the Blue Demons with 21 points. Paul Scruggs had 21 points in the losing effort. Souley Boum is averaging 17.6 points per game to lead the Musketeers in scoring this season.
Meanwhile, Zach Freemantle is grabbing 8.1 rebounds per game, and Colby Jones is dishing 5.2 assists. Javan Johnson and Umoja Gibson have supplied much of the Blue Demons’ offense, averaging 15.7 and 14.9 points per game, respectively. Gibson also has tallied 5.1 assists per game. Eral Penn has posted 7.4 rebounds per game.
The Musketeers are one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country, ranking 10th with 84.2 points per game. In the last 10 games, Xavier is 10-0 with an average margin of +7.9 (84.3-76.4).
DePaul has gone 3-7 over the last 10, allowing 74.9 points per game on average while scoring only 67.7 (-7.2 margin). The Blue Demons are averaging 71.7 ppg for the full season while allowing 74.7.
