The Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-10, 0-8 Big 12) will try to break down one of the country’s top scoring defenses when they play host to the No. 12 Iowa State Cyclones (15-5, 6-2 Big 12) on Monday.
Iowa State lost to the Missouri Tigers 78-61 at Mizzou Arena on Saturday, their third loss in a row away from home. Jaren Holmes led the way in defeat with 19 points.
Texas Tech found victory on Saturday at Pete Maravich Assembly Center, beating the LSU Tigers 76-68. Kevin Obanor had 22 points, leading the team.
It’s the final meeting of the season between the teams. After taking the only prior season meeting against Texas Tech 84-50 at James H. Hilton Coliseum on January 10, Iowa State will be seeking a season sweep. Gabe Kalscheur led the Cyclones with 25 points and seven rebounds.
De’Vion Harmon had 14 points and five steals in the losing effort. Holmes and Kalscheur, averaging 13.8 and 13.2 points per game, respectively, are leading the Cyclones in scoring this season. Meanwhile, Osun Osunniyi is grabbing 3.9 rebounds per game, and Tamin Lipsey is dishing 4.8 assists.
Obanor’s 15.3 points per game have powered the Red Raiders on offense. Obanor also has pulled down 6.2 rebounds per game. Harmon has recorded 3.6 assists per game.
The Cyclones are holding opponents to 60.5 points per game, ranking as one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the country (13th). The Red Raiders have had the advantage in the Cyclones’ last 10 trips to United Supermarkets Arena, winning seven.
