The No. 19 Creighton Bluejays (18-9, 12-4 Big East) will try to slow down one of the country’s top scoring teams when they play host to the No. 10 Marquette Golden Eagles (21-6, 13-3 Big East) on Tuesday. Marquette edged past the Xavier Musketeers 69-68 at Fiserv Forum on Wednesday.
With 17 points and six steals, Stevie Mitchell had a standout performance. The Golden Eagles remain first in the Big East Conference.
Creighton triumphed on Saturday at Carnesecca Arena, beating the St. John’s Red Storm 77-67. Ryan Nembhard had 16 points to lead the team. The Bluejays are second in the Big East Conference. The teams are meeting for the final time this season.
Marquette will be looking for a season sweep against Creighton after earning the win in the only previous matchup 69-58 at Fiserv Forum in December 2022.
Oso Ighodaro led the Golden Eagles with 16 points. Fredrick King had 16 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks in defeat. The Golden Eagles have been led this season by Kam Jones and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, who are averaging 14.9 and 12.7 points per game, respectively.
Meanwhile, Tyler Kolek is dishing 7.6 assists per game, second-most in the nation, and Ighodaro is grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game. Trey Alexander (13.4 ppg), Ryan Kalkbrenner (13.2), and Baylor Scheierman (12.9) have powered the Bluejays on offense. Scheierman also has averaged 8.1 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Nembhard has distributed 5.0 assists per game. The Golden Eagles rank as one of the most explosive offenses in the country, 19th-best with 80.7 points per game. Marquette is 8-2 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +6.8 (76.7-69.9).
For the season, the Golden Eagles are averaging 80.7 points per game, compared to 70.6 for opponents. Creighton has gone 9-1 over the last 10, scoring 75.7 points per game on average while allowing 65.2 (+10.5 margin).
