The No. 21 UConn Huskies (19-6, 8-6 Big East), one of the nation’s top scoring teams, head to face the No. 23 Creighton Bluejays (16-8, 10-3 Big East) on Saturday.
UConn defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles 87-72 at XL Center on Tuesday, their third straight win. Jordan Hawkins was the top scorer with 20 points.
Tristen Newton had a triple double with 12 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds. The Huskies are sixth in the Big East Conference. Creighton won their seventh in a row on Wednesday at Prudential Center, beating the Seton Hall Pirates 75-62.
Baylor Scheierman had 19 points to top the scoresheet. With 15 points, Ryan Nembhard also played a part. The Bluejays fell to fourth in the Big East Conference.
The teams are meeting for the last time this season. After taking the only earlier season game against Creighton 69-60 at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on January 7, UConn will be looking for a season sweep. Adama Sanogo led the Huskies with 26 points and nine rebounds.
Arthur Kaluma had 14 points and 16 rebounds in the loss. Sanogo and Hawkins, averaging 17.2 and 15.1 points per game, respectively, have led the Huskies in scoring this season. Sanogo also has grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Newton is dishing 4.4 assists per game. Trey Alexander (13.3 ppg), Scheierman (13.3), and Ryan Kalkbrenner (13.2) have been the primary providers of the Bluejays’ offense. Scheierman also has collected 8.3 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Nembhard has tallied 5.2 assists per game. With 79.6 points per game, the Huskies are one of the top scoring offenses in the country (28th).
