The No. 23 Charleston Cougars (15-1, 3-0 CAA), one of the country’s top scoring teams, welcome the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens (9-6, 1-1 CAA) on Saturday. Delaware defeated the Elon Phoenix 57-52 at Bob Carpenter Center Acierno Arena on Saturday. With 15 points, Jameer Nelson Jr. was the scoring leader.
Christian Ray was another standout performer with 14 points and six rebounds. The Fightin’ Blue Hens are fifth in the Colonial Athletic Conference. Charleston won their 14th in a row on Wednesday at Corbett Sports Center, beating the North Carolina A&T Aggies 92-79. Dalton Bolon had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the team. The Cougars slipped to second in the Colonial Athletic Conference.
The teams are meeting for the only time this season. Delaware and Charleston split their matchups last season, each team winning one game. The Cougars took the last meeting 99-96 at Bob Carpenter Center Acierno Arena in February 2022. Ryan Allen topped all players in scoring with 28 points in defeat.
Reyne Smith had 22 points for the Cougars, while Raekwon Horton played a key role with 15 points. The Fightin’ Blue Hens have been led this season by Nelson Jr., who is averaging 19.7 points per game. Meanwhile, Ray is grabbing 9.7 rebounds per game, and Jyare Davis is dishing 3.5 assists.
Bolon has supplied much of the Cougars’ offense, averaging 13.1 points per game. Babacar Faye is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game, and Ryan Larson is recording 3.9 assists. The Cougars rank as one of the highest-scoring offenses in the nation, 25th-best with 81.2 points per game.
Delaware is 6-4 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -1.9 (70.3-72.2). Charleston has won each of the last 10 as part of the team’s 14-game win streak, scoring 79.6 points per game on average while holding opponents to 66.1 (+13.5 margin).
