The No. 9 Baylor Bears (20-8, 9-6 Big 12) will try to slow down one of the nation’s top scoring teams when they host the No. 8 Texas Longhorns (22-6, 11-4 Big 12) on Saturday.
Texas dismantled the Iowa State Cyclones 72-54 at Moody Center on Tuesday. With 15 points each, Tyrese Hunter and Sir’Jabari Rice were the scoring leaders. Marcus Carr added 13 points.
The Longhorns are first in the Big 12 Conference. Baylor lost on Tuesday at Fred Bramlage Coliseum, falling to the Kansas State Wildcats 75-65. Keyonte George topped the scoresheet in the loss with 23 points.
With 16 points and six assists, LJ Cryer also played a part. The Bears are fourth in the Big 12 Conference. It’s the last meeting of the season between the teams. Texas will be seeking a season sweep against Baylor after triumphing in the only earlier meeting 76-71 at Moody Center on January 30.
Rice led the Longhorns with 21 points, while Timmy Allen added 18 points. Cryer had 19 points in the loss. Carr is averaging 17.0 points per game to lead the Longhorns in scoring this season. Carr also has dished 4.1 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Allen is grabbing 5.4 rebounds.George (16.9 ppg) and Adam Flagler (14.5) have powered the Bears’ offense. Flagler also has tallied 4.5 assists per game. Jalen Bridges has collected 5.8 rebounds per game.
The Longhorns are averaging 79.4 points per game, ranking as one of the top scoring offenses in the NCAA (27th).The Longhorns are only 2-7 in their last 10 visits to Ferrell Center.
