Wimbledon Predictions 2022: SportsTips’ Top Tennis Picks For Men’s Quarterfinals
Tue 5th July 2022

The grass court action continues to heat up, and the team at SportsTips.com are previewing all the Quarterfinal clashes. Read below to check out our picks for the tasty four clashes we have this round in the men’s side of the draw at Wimbledon for 2022!

The Quarterfinals at Wimbledon is upon us, and we have three unseeded men left in the draw, while on the flip side, we still have the number one and two seeds left in the draw. The fifth seed, Alcaraz, was dispatched in the Round of 16 as well. We have one American left in the men’s side of the draw, Fritz, who is the 11th seed.

With the number one and two seeds still left in the draw, who is good enough to crack this Grand Slam wide open and move into the final four? Will we see another Grand Slam title go to either Djokovic or Nadal? Or will we see an unseeded player crowned champion? All will be revealed soon!

Enjoy our free tennis picks and predictions for each round at Wimbledon for 2022.

Novak Djokovic (1) vs Jannik Sinner (10)

The number one seed, Novak Djokovic, is successfully into yet another Grand Slam Quarterfinal, and on this occasion he will face off against Jannik Sinner. Djokovic has dropped two sets so far in this tournament, one in the first round and another in the Round of 16. Sinner knocked out young hotshot, Alcaraz, in the Round of 16, in four sets to progress into the Quarterfinals.

Jeffery Thomas

It was yet another great performance in the previous round for Novak Djokovic as he handed Tim van Rijthoven his first loss of the grass season in 4 sets. TVR was winning around 90% of his first serve points in the earlier rounds but could only achieve about 66% in the match against Djoker which was a big factor in the result. Novak is now set to face Italian Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals, and it is QF #13 for the Serbian who is 10-2 in those appearances including one retirement. Jannik Sinner played the match of his life in the previous round, knocking out the tennis darling, 19-year old Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.

It was Sinner’s third attempt at taking out Carlos and he cashed it in by saving all six of the breakpoints he faced. The Italian #2 is showing his elite potential when he stays fit and now is the youngest player to reach the Quarterfinals on all three surfaces in Grand Slam events (grass, hard, clay). This is also his 6th QF of this season, but he is 0-5 up to this point. Sinner is also 0-12 against top-5 opponents in his career so not a lot of people are expecting him to pull off this upset. This is familiar territory for the world number 3, and I expect Novak to have yet another clinical performance and put an end to this young Italian’s run on Tuesday.

Jeffery’s Wimbledon Pick:

Game Spread – Djokovic -5.5 (-200)

Novak Djokovic has been playing great in the first week of Wimbledon but it seems like the match against Jannik Sinner will be the first real test for the Serbian. The six-time Wimbledon champion has won only one tournament this season and has dropped to world no. 3. He is definitely gunning for the trophy here which will bring him only one win shy from Rafael Nadal at the all-time Grand Slam winners list. On his way to the quarterfinals, Djokovic defeated Tim van Rijthove, Miomir Kecmanovic, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Soon-woo Kwon.

Jannik Sinner has proved that he is one of the new hopes in the world of tennis and this is the match that can launch him among the very best in tennis today. The 20-year-old, who is 13th in the ATP rankings, defeated Carlos Alcaraz, John Isner, Michael Ymer and Stan Warinka so far in the tournament. His best result this year is the Quarterfinal at the Australian Open. Djokovic has won the match against Sinner so far, 6-4, 6-2 in Monte Carlo in 2021.

Marko’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Djokovic 3-1 (+260)

When looking at the draw before the start of the tournament many would have predicted that today’s quarter final would have been between Djokovic and young Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz but Jannik Sinner had other ideas! The young Italian entered this year’s Championships with some doubts over a knee injury which saw him having to withdraw from the French Open and had severely impacted his preparation for this year’s Wimbledon. Sinner seems to be fine and has reached his first quarterfinal at SW19. In order to reach this far Sinner has beaten some tough opponents which include the likes of Stan Wawrinka, John Isner and Alcaraz. With a huge game, Sinner seems to have found a new love for the grass and will be primed to push Djokovic all the way.

He will need to be at his very best yet again as he has never beaten the Serbian and he will be hoping that changes here. Djokovic is in a superb 25 match unbeaten grass court run which stretches all the way back to 2018. A winner of this tournament a staggering six times, Djokovic is looking in fine form as he bids for a seventh title. The Serbian has had a reasonably comfortable draw in reaching this stage and has just dropped two sets. He has managed to shake off a lot of the rust that has plagued him this year and he has a great chance of glory. Holding a 2-0 record over Sinner, Djokovic’s game matches up nicely with the big hitting Italian. His consistency and movement could be a nightmare for Sinner and he has to start today as the heavy favorite.

Jack’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Djokovic 3-0 (-125)

David Goffin vs Cameron Norrie (9)

Veteran David Goffin will go toe-to-toe with the final local hope left in the draw at Wimbledon, the ninth seed, Cameron Norrie. Goffin won his first two matches in straight sets, then it got a little bit trickier, winning his Round 3 match in four sets, then in the Round of 16 he was pushed the distance in an epic match against American, Tiafoe. Norrie has had straight sets victories in all but one of his matches, where he was taken to five sets against Munar in the second round.

Jeffery Thomas

Cameron Norrie kept the British hopes for a Wimbledon title alive by advancing through to the Quarterfinals by taking out America’s Tommy Paul in straight sets in the Round of 16. Paul had been in great form heading into the matchup and a lot of people were expecting a close battle but Norrie controlled the match throughout. He is now the first Brit not named Andy Murray to make it this far since Tim Henman back in 2004 and has to get past another tough opponent in this round if he has hopes of advancing even further. That opponent is David Goffin who also took out one of America’s own in the Round of 16.

Goffin defeated Frances Tiafoe in an epic 5-set match where he trailed 1 sets to 2. He’s now back in a major Quarterfinal for the fourth time but he had not fared too well at this stage previously. He is 0-3 including a straight sets loss to Novak Djokovic in Goffin’s last Wimbledon Quarterfinal which was back in 2019. This match is expected to be a lot closer and I honestly don’t see much between these two at the moment. We get a match of two guys in top-form, and the experience and firepower is on the side of the underdog Goffin here. However, the cerebral pony construction and problem solving is on Norrrie’s side and I think we get a tight match where both guys get their chances.

Jeffery’s Wimbledon Pick:

Total Games – Over 37.5 (-150)

Cameron Norrie is still the best ranked British player in the ATP and the home crowd is hoping that he will be able to reach the final four phase. Norrie is currently 12th in the ATP rankings with his career-best being at no. 10. The 26-year-old defeated Tommy Paul, Steve Johnson, Jaume Munar and Pablo Andujar on his way to the Quarterfinals. He is 31-15 for the season and 5-2 on grass. Norrie’s best results this year are the titles in Lyon and Indian Wells. He has won in the only match against David Goffin, after the Belgian quit in the last year’s match in Barcelona.

Goffin is currently 58th in the ATP rankings with his best result being at no. 7. He is 26-16 for the year and 4-1 on grass. Goffin is coming off a thriller win over Frances Tiafoe in the previous round. Before that, he beat Ugo Humbert, Sebastian Baez and Radu Albot. Goffin has one title this season, in Marrakech.

Slowly Britain is becoming abuzz with excitement as Britain’s number one male player Cam Norrie has a great chance of reaching his first ever Grand Slam Semifinal. Norrie has never reached the second week of a Grand Slam before but the Brit has looked to be in complete control of his game during this career defining run to the Quarters. Norrie’s draw has opened up nicely but he has taken full advantage, beating the likes of Steve Johnson and Pablo Andujar with relative ease. Norrie has made no secret of the fact that he can struggle on the grass and it’s by no means his favorite surface, but it’s his consistency and superb movement that have been causing his opponents all sorts of issues. He will deservedly start the match as the heavy favorite and should have far too much ability for his opponent David Goffin.

David Goffin has had a rough eighteen months when it comes to his tennis. Suffering from a tough bout of COVID, Goffin’s game really suffered and the diminutive Belgian dropped out of the top ten and was in serious danger of falling outside of the top 100. The last few months have been kinder to Goffin, and the Belgian now finds himself at number 58. Goffin had to battle past Frances Tiafoe in the last round, impressively outlasting his American opponent in five tough sets. It will be interesting to see how much that has taken out of him as he gears up to face yet another tough competitor. This is the farthest that Goffin has been in a Grand Slam since reaching the Quarterfinal back here in 2019. It’s been a great run, but it will come to an end today.

Jack’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Norrie 3-0 (+200)

Taylor Fritz (11) vs Rafael Nadal (2)

The final American left on the men’s side of the draw, Taylor Fritz, will face his biggest test to date when he faces off against the number two seed, Rafael Nadal. Fritz has had somewhat of a lucky draw, as he is yet to face a seeded player, but he has taken full advantage of his luck and is yet to drop a set. Nadal has dropped two sets so far this tournament, one coming in the first round and another in the second round.

Jeffery Thomas

Rafael Nadal is into the Quarterfinals of a slam yet again and continued his quest of claiming all four majors in a season by taking out Botic van de Zandschulp in the Round of 16. The big Dutchman had a great grass season and was seen by some as a worthy opponent who could push Rafa, but in the end the veteran just had too much and got the job done in straight sets. It wasn’t a perfect performance however, as Nadal was up 5-2 in the final set and even served for it at 5-3 but was broken and had to close it out in a tiebreak. He got through it nonetheless and now gets his rematch with Taylor Fritz who beat him earlier this year back at Indian Wells in the Final.

Fritz continued his run through Wimbledon without dropping a set by beating his compatriot Jason Kubler 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 in just over two hours. He broke Kubler 7 times compared to the one time he was broken, and also won the ace advantage 16-3. It’s been a true standout season for the American #1 and he’d want nothing more than another win over Rafa to get him into his first Semifinal at a major event. If you just look at both guy’s performances up to this point, you can make a case that Fritz is in the better form. These conditions also make this matchup a lot closer and I don’t see a way Nadal wins this one in 3 or 4 sets. This sets up to be a battle between two of the best guys on tour this year and I think Fritz is very undervalued in this spot. I’m not sure he will win but I do think he can win two sets.

Jeffery’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Spread – Fritz +1.5 (+110)

Rafael Nadal has real reason to believe that he can win the third consecutive Grand Slam tournament. He is playing pretty well to this point in Wimbledon and is raising his form in every round. The Spaniard is currently fourth in the ATP rankings and has a 35-4 record for the year and 5-1 on grass. On his way to the Quarterfinals, Nadal defeated Botic van de Zandschulp, Lorenzo Sonego, Ricardas Berankis and Francisco Cerundolo. Nadal has won Wimbledon twice before and will have a tough task against Fritz who is the player that handed him the first loss this season, in the Final in Indian Wells.

Taylor Fritz has grown into a real contender and this is his chance for his best result of his career. The American is currently ranked at no. 14 with his career-high being one spot higher. The 24-year-old is 29-10 for the season with 8-2 on grass. Fritz is coming to the Quarterfinals without losing a set in the previous four matches against Jason Kubler, Alex Molcan, Alaistar Gray and Lorenzo Mussetti.

Marko’s Wimbledon Pick:

Match Winner – Nadal (-286)

A rematch of the Indian Wells Final awaits as Rafa Nadal prepares to take on Taylor Fritz. This is Nadal’s first Quarterfinal of Wimbledon since he reached the Semifinal back in 2019 and the Spaniard has looked convincing as he aims to win a third Grand Slam of the year. Nadal will have been delighted that he has been able to win his last two matches in straight sets which has helped him preserve precious energy for the bigger challenges to come. With a potentially mouthwatering match up with nemesis Nick Kygrios on the horizon, fans all over the world will be hoping that Nadal can overcome this tricky hurdle.

Taylor Fritz is enjoying his best year on Tour and the American has capped off a great first six months with his first ever Grand Slam Quarterfinal. Fritz has been one of the best players at this year’s Championships and is yet to drop a set, as he has cruised past the likes of Lorenzo Musetti, Alex Molcan and Jason Kubler. Surprisingly given his big game, Fritz has always struggled at Wimbledon, but this year he seems to be using the quicker surface to his advantage. A sneaky good mover, Fritz is a nightmare matchup for the Spaniard as Fritz proved in their Indian Wells Final earlier this year. Nadal will be gunning for revenge and his big match experience at this level might just be enough to get him through but this is a contest that could go the distance.

Jack’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Nadal 3-2 (+450)

Cristian Garín vs Nick Kyrgios

This will be a clash between two unseeded players as one of them will book a spot in the final four here at Wimbledon. Cristian Garín showed his fight in the Round of 16, coming back from two sets down against Australian de Minaur, to win in a fifth set tie break. He will face off against another Australian in the Quarterfinals, Nick Kyrgios, who also just played a five set match in the Round of 16, defeating unseeded American, Nakashima.

Jeffery Thomas

Christian Garin pulled off something that no one else in this year’s Wimbledon has been able to do and that is to make that 0-2 comeback. It was the first match of the day on Monday and he came out a bit sluggish against Alex de Minaur who raced out to a 6-2 first set win. ADM then followed that up by winning the second set, but it was a lot closer at 7-5. That set must have given Garin a bit of confidence and belief that he can compete, and he quickly raced out to a break lead in the 3rd before losing that advantage and then having to go to a tiebreak. Garin won the tiebreak 7-3 and then took that momentum into the 4th set, winning that 6-4. The deciding set then also went to a tiebreak where Garin controlled it late, winning the final 7 of 8 points to win the match after almost 5 grueling hours.

It was a truly impressive win for the Chilean and he now is rewarded with another battle with an Australian, this time the polarizing Nick Kyrgios. Kyrgios also needed 5 sets in the Round of 16 but he was able to take care of business against Brandon Nakashima to get to his second career Wimbledon Quarterfinal. These two have never met, but the grass advantage is heavily in the favor of the Australian here. He self-proclaimed himself a top 5 grass player and is playing just like that, and has one of the most lethal serves in the world. I don’t see Garin doing much on return in this match, but I do see him stealing at least one set. However, one set is all he’ll be able to get as Kyrgios advances to his first Semifinal of a major event.

Jeffery’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Spread – Kyrgios -1.5 (-210)

One of these two players will make his best result in a Grand Slam. Nick Kyrgios felt pain in the neck in the previous round but still defeated Brandon Nakashima in five sets. Previously, the Australian won against Stefanos Tsitsipas, Filip Krajinovic and Paul Jubb. The 27-year-old is currently 40th in the ATP rankings with his career-high being at no. 13. He is 20-6 this year and 11-2 on grass. Kyrgios has not won a single title since 2019.

Cristian Garin caused a huge upset in the men’s tournament. He is coming off a 3-2 comeback win against Alex De Minaur in the previous round. The Chilean also defeated Janson Brooksby, Hugo Greiner and Elias Ymer at Wimbledon. He is currently 43rd in the ATP rankings and no. 17 is his career-high. The 26-year-old is 16-15 for the season and 4-2 on grass.

Marko’s Wimbledon Pick:

Match Winner – Kyrgios (-400)

Whisper it quietly but Nick Kygrios is perhaps realizing himself that he could win this tournament. A precocious talent, Kygrios’s gutsy five set win over Brandon Nakashima showed heart and grit, showcasing a competitive side to the Australian we have rarely seen in recent times. What made the win even more impressive was the Australian had to battle through a shoulder injury to come through and it’s unknown if that will hinder his progress moving forward. Kygrios’s opponent, Cristian Garin is enjoying his best ever Grand Slam run and it’s come as a shock to everyone that it has come on the grass.

A clay courter by trade, Garin has taken full advantage of some luck as his first round opponent Matteo Berettini had to withdraw due to COVID. It’s a match he would have most likely lost. Garin has picked up two really good wins against Jenson Brooksby and Alex De Minaur to reach this stage and the Chilean will be looking to exploit any weaknesses in his Australian opponents’ game. The two have never faced off before but it should be Kygrios who should have a bit too much power and advance to his first ever singles Grand Slam Semifinal.

Jack’s Wimbledon Pick:

Set Betting – Kyrgios 3-0 (+130)
