Picks For Round 4 Of The 2021 French Open: Men’s

Matteo Berrettini (9) vs Roger Federer (8)

*Note: Roger Federer pulled out of the French Open after this article was written.*

Matteo Berrettini has had a pretty successful French Open campaign so far, having only dropped one set in his first three rounds, but he comes up against a much tougher opponent, and his first seeded challenger, in Roger Federer.

Berrettini has beaten Daniel, Coria and Kwon to make it to the forth round of the French Open. It will be a touch match for Berrettini as Federer has a proven record against him, and has won their last two meetings in straight sets.

Roger Federer steps onto the court again for what seems like his 100th appearance in the fourth round, such is his dominance over the past decade or so. Federer has had a couple of close matches and has so far lost two sets on his way to the forth round. However, 4/11 of the sets he as played so far had to go to a tiebreak.

You have to consider that Berrettini probably has the fresher legs coming into this game, as he hasn’t been on the court for as long as Federer has, and this is always something that needs to be considered as we move into the later rounds in a Grand Slam. We still like Federer to get the win here, but Berrettini may steal a set, or two, from the Swiss master.

Tennis Pick: Total Match Games – Over 38.5 (-135)

Novak Djokovic (1) vs Lorenzo Musetti

No one would have expected anything less from the world number one, but he has steamrolled his way into the fourth round of the French Open, having lost no set along the way. In fact, he has only lost 23 games in all three previous rounds and we will expect more of the same as he comes up against another unseeded opponent in Lorenzo Musetti.

Djokovic doesn’t let opponent even get a look in on his serve, and he has won 83% of his first serve points. As well as this, he has only been broken once in this first three matches. The pair have never played together in competition, but have been known to practice together, so they will know a little bit about each other’s games.

Lorenzo Musetti is facing a challenge that is as tough as it gets. So far in the French Open, he has dropped two sets, both of which came in his third round encounter with Marco Cecchinato. This grinding five set victory might mean fatigue will come into play here for the Italian

The 19 year old has been playing very well lately, and he should get lots of praise for this. But the occasion is just to high, and we think the pressure of playing the world number one will get to Musetti, and Djokovic will once again steamroll his opponent.

Tennis Pick: Exact Score – Novak Djokovic 3-0 (-200)

Rafael Nadal (3) vs Jannik Sinner (18)

It is always a pleasure to see the greatest ever clay court player in action, and we will once again see Rafael Nadal on the court for the forth round of the French Open. Nadal is yet to drop a set in the Grand Slam, and is yet to come across a seeded opponent, but this will change in the forth round, when he comes up against Jannik Sinner, who is seeded 18th.

This match will be a rematch of last year’s quarterfinal, where Nadal was victorious. The pair have only played one other time, and Nadal won that match as well, so he leads the head-to-head, 2-0. But this match will certainly be Nadal’s toughest encounter yet, as Sinner has a lot of firepower he can bring to the court.

Jannik Sinner has not had the smoothest run to the fourth round, and he actually had to save a match point against his first round opponent, Herbert. Although, after that tough match, things look a little more settled for the Italian. Sinner has shown what he can do on the clay, when he has at he best, making it to the quarterfinals last year.

While he does have a proven track record on clay, Nadal’s is obviously much more proven. As well as this, Sinner’s powerful groundstrokes are hitting as accurately as he would have hoped. We think Nadal will be able to get the victory here in straight sets.

Tennis Pick: Exact Score – Rafael Nadal 3-0 (-140)

Picks For Round 4 Of The 2021 French Open: Women’s

Serena Williams (7) vs Elena Rybakina (21)

Coming into this 4th round clash, Serena Williams has only dropped one set. While she may have came into the French Open with a lack of clay court matches, she hasn’t put a foot wrong and is on her way to claim her 24th major title.

Williams has beaten Begu, Buzarnescu and Collins to get to the 4th round. The pair have never played before, so it will be an interesting match to watch. Williams powerful style of play should help give her the edge going into this match.

While everyone knows all about Serena Williams, Elena Rybakina has certainly been flying under the radar. Rybakina has not dropped a single set in her first three matches and she has made it to the second week at Roland Garros for the first time in her career.

Looking at her overall record for the year, she is currently sitting at 8-9 (win-loss). Her three previous wins in the 2021 French Open have been against Jacquemot, Hibino and Vesnina (all unseeded players. This is by far the biggest test Rybakina will face in the French Open, and we think Williams will win comfortably.

Tennis Pick: Exact Score – Serena Williams 2-0 (+115)

Ons Jabeur (25) vs Coco Gauff (24)

Ons Jabeur has had a fairly easy ride to the fourth round, only dropping on set in the process, but this is the first time she will face a seeded player in the French Open. She was victorious against Putintseva, Sharma and Linette, making her total time spent on court so far this tournament just under four hours.

The pair have played three times previously, will Gauff leading the head-to-head 2-1, with both players getting one win each on the clay. They both have similar overall win-loss records for the year so far, with Jabeur’s record 23-9 and Gauff’s record 26-9.

We are so excited to see Coco Gauff in the forth round of the French Open! The teen sensation has captured hearts not only in America, but right around the world, and you just feel that everyone will be hoping for a Gauff victory in this match.

Gauff is yet to drop a set so far in the French Open, and has spent the same amount of time on the court as Jabeur. In her last match, her opponent Brady, had to retire after the first set. Gauff’s total match time in the French Open so far is also around four hours. We aren’t sure who will get the victory, but we think this will be a close one!

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 2.5 (+116)

Sofia Kenin (4) vs Maria Sakkari (17)

Another American women has made it to the forth round of the French Open (there are four American women in total). Kenin has not had the easiest of paths into the forth round, and has had two three set matches. Her inconsistency is something that has hampered her progress throughout her career, as she is known to have significant dips in performance during games.

Her form before the French Open started was not the best, to say the least, but she seems to have pulled it together when it counts! She faced some tough opponents in the first couple of rounds, but managed to make it through. In the pairs head-to-head Kenin leads the charge 2-1.

It was smooth sailing for Maria Sakkari in the first two rounds, but faced a massive challenge against E. Mertens in the third round. When looking at the pair, it is Sakkari with all the form, but Kenin won’t give up without a fight, that’s for sure.

Sakkari is known for her powerful shots, and could easily overpower Kenin off the court. This game will be more about who makes the less errors, and while we are picking Sakkari for the win here, it might be a better bet to go with total sets over/under, as we are more confident in this match going to three sets.

Tennis Pick: Total Sets – Over 2.5 (+118)
