Australian Open Predictions 2023: SportsTips’ Top Tennis Picks For Men’s Final

It’s the Final here at the Australian Open, and on the men’s side of the draw we have two seeded players fighting for the title of 2023 champion, as third seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas, will take on the fourth seed, Novak Djokovic.

With so much to play for, who will rise to the challenge, and who will crack under the pressure? This matchup is set to be a cracker and you don’t want to miss this, as a spot at glory and an Australian Open title is up for grabs.

Stefanos Tsitsipas (3) vs Novak Djokovic (4)

The match everyone is waiting for is here! Stefanos Tsitsipas will take on Novak Djokovic for Australian Open glory. Tsitsipas is in his second Grand Slam Final, and on his road to the Final, he has dropped just three sets. Djokovic has had yet another great performance at a Grand Slam, and so far he has only dropped one set.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is coming into the Final in the Australian Open in great form. He has won all 14 of his last matches in dominating fashion, showing impeccable footwork and defense combined with powerful and accurate attacks. I can’t see a better time for him to play Novak Djokovic and try to get his revenge. Djokovic has won the last eight duels against Tsitsipas and looks to be an unsolvable enigma for the Greek star. They say revenge is a dish best-served cold. Well, beating someone in the Final of the Australian Open certainly counts as that. 

Novak Djokovic has been having a blast in Australia. After winning the Adelaide tournament, Djokovic seems to be cruising in the Australian Open. The vaccine restrictions are a thing of the past, he’s allowed to play, and the crowd sees him as a hero. The audience is on his side, and Novak is loving every second of it. The match against Tsitsipas will be the hardest yet in this tournament. With the changes of generations in men’s tennis, the retirement of Federer, and the decline of Nadal, Djokovic is the last man standing and the overwhelming favorite to win every tournament he enters. Taking into consideration the excellent form of Tsitsipas, I will give him a set. Djokovic wins this match 3-1.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic once again meet each other in a Grand Slam Final. In 2021 in Paris, Tsitsipas had his first shot at winning the Roland Garros, but he suffered a tough loss from 2-0 up. However, he has grown as a player throughout the last couple of years, thus gaining plenty of experience along the process. His first serve seems to be working quite well for him at this year’s Australian Open. Moreover, Tsitsipas is currently on a 13-game winning streak and hasn’t lost a match since early December 2022. His on-court movement and his game awareness have improved as he hopes to have the right weapons against the resurrected Djokovic. 

On the other hand, the Serbian will be determined to become the second player in ATP history with 10+ titles at a single Grand Slam. He has set his eyes on making a record-tying performance on Sunday as the victory will put both him and Nadal on top of the leaderboard with 22 Grand Slam titles. Djokovic’s playing style hasn’t changed much and even the pandemic couldn’t affect his overall consistency. The experienced Serbian knows how to play on the biggest stage of all as this will be his 33rd Grand Slam Final. Keeping in mind that he has the best return on the ATP Tour, I think he will be able to withstand Tsitsipas’ offense. Hence, this will severely hurt the Greek athlete’s chances of winning a maiden title at the Australian Open. I believe that we will once again see a dominant display of tennis by Djokovic who will wrap up the match in 3 sets.

The two form players in the men’s side of the draw have set up the Final we all wanted to see as third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on fourth seed Novak Djokovic. Djokovic is looking for his tenth Australian Open title whilst this will be the first Australian Open Final that Tsitsipas will be competing in. Both have made relatively easy progress through the draw with the exception of Tsitsipas being taken to five sets against Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16. In their Semifinal clashes Tsitsipas had to overcome the tricky challenge of Russian Karen Khachanov. Tsitsipas held a 5-1 winning record over the Russian heading into the contest and showed exactly why. Winning the first two sets, the Greek star was then pegged back in the third but held his nerve to win the fourth set and book a place in his second Grand Slam Final. 

Novak Djokovic made it the fourth match in a row in which he has prevailed in straight sets. His victory over Tommy Paul in the Semifinal certainly wasn’t without a test. Cruising at 5-1 in the first set, the American fired back to level the first set at 5-5. His class eventually told, with Djokovic earning the all important break and wrapping up the first set. Djokovic would go on to lose just three more games as he reached yet another Australian Open Final. This will be the second time that Djokovic and Tsitsipas would have met in a Grand Slam final with Djokovic winning a dramatic match at the 2021 French Open. He came back from two sets down to edge Tsitsipas in a thriller and many will be hoping this match produces similar fireworks. Despite Djokovic leading the head to head 10-3 and having won the last eight contests, this won’t be a procession. Djokovic should edge this encounter but expect Tsitsipas to push him all the way.
