SportsTips’ Euro 2020 Group Stage Predictions – Matchday 2

SportsTips’ Euro 2020 Group Stage Predictions – Matchday 2
Wed 16th June 2021

Matchday 2 is upon us! And with 28 goals scored over 12 games in Matchday 1 we couldn’t be more excited, with only 1 nil all draw in the mix and plenty of cracking goals.

Denmark vs Belgium

Thursday, June 17th, 12.00 PM (EDT)

The Parken Stadium in Copenhagen plays host to this Matchday 2 clash between Denmark, who lost their opener against Finland 1-0 in a match which was overshadowed by the horrifying collapse of Christian Eriksen, and Belgium, who sit atop the group after a convincing 3-0 win against Russia.

It was unfair that Denmark were made to continue playing after Eriksen suffered a sudden cardiac arrest, and their defeat was even more unfair considering they attempted 22 shots to Finlands’ 1.

This fixture is a rematch of their Nations League clash toward the end of last year, a match which ended 4-2 the way of the Red Devils following a masterclass performance from Romelu Lukaku. The big man bagged 2 goals in that match, and he wasted no time in the opener against Russia, taking just 10 minutes to open his account and adding a second in the games’ final minutes.

With Christian Eriksen’s footballing future in doubt this match will be played in his honour, and while a win on home soil is the result that football deserves, from a head to head perspective we can’t look past Belgium.

Match Prediction: Belgium (+100)
Best Prop: Anytime Goalscorer – Romelu Lukaku (+105)

Netherlands vs Austria

Thursday, June 17th, 3.00 PM (EDT)

The Netherlands are coming into this one off the back of their 3-2 win over Ukraine, a match which undoubtedly holds the title of game of the tournament so far. After a goalless first half the Dutch came out swinging with 2 quickfire goals in the second, but the lead didn’t last as Ukraine did the exact same thing in the 70th minute.

With the score tied up at 2-2 it took a late winner from Denzel Dumfries, rifling the ball into the net with a powerful header to secure the points and make up for an earlier gilt edged miss.

Austria also picked up a big victory, cruising past North Macedonia despite an early slip up to win 3-1. The win is just the second from the last 7 games for Austria, but they now face a significantly bigger challenge against the Netherlands, who are undefeated over their last 5.

Match Prediction: Netherlands (-180)
Best Prop: Over 2.5 Goals (-138)

England vs Scotland

Friday, June 18th, 3.00 PM (EDT)

The Brits are hoping to keep the ball rolling following their 1-0 win over Croatia, which has the fans prematurely chanting “Football’s coming home”. In their way stands their bitter age-old rivals, Scotland, who desperately need to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to Slovakia if they want to keep their Round of 16 hopes alive.

Having won just 1 meeting in the time dating back to 1986 it is hard to see the Scots pulling off a win in this one. With class oozing all across the field this England side is one of the most promising we have seen in recent times and should have no trouble securing the points.

Match Prediction: England (-340)
Best Prop: Anytime Goalscorer – Harry Kane (-150)

Hungary vs France

Saturday, June 19th, 9.00 AM (EDT)

Hungary look to be headed for an early exit from their group of death after their 3-0 defeat to Portugal in Game 1. They now come up against a France side which are looking borderline unstoppable, keeping Germany goalless in a 1-0 win on Tuesday.

The powerhouse World Cup winners are unsurprisingly the team to beat, and they have only gotten stronger since the return of Karim Benzema, who was unlucky not to convert with a goal ruled offside.

Hungary have the hosting duties in front of a max capacity Puskas Arena, however, after comfortably losing to Portugal in the same stadium we don’t see their luck improving against this finely tuned France outfit.

Match Prediction: France (-340)
Best Prop: Both Teams to Score (-156)
