The Portland Trail Blazers (12-11, 4-5 Home) will try to slow down one of the league’s top scoring teams when they host the Indiana Pacers (12-10, 5-6 Away) on Sunday. Indiana was dominated by the Utah Jazz 139-119 at Vivint Arena on Friday. Myles Turner was the scoring leader in the losing effort with 18 points.
Andrew Nembhard was another standout performer with 13 points and 10 assists. The Pacers are fifth in the Eastern Conference. Portland is playing on back-to-back days after triumphing yesterday at Vivint Arena, beating the Utah Jazz 116-111. Anfernee Simons had 45 points to lead the team.
The Trail Blazers are 11th in the Western Conference. The teams are meeting for the first time this season. Indiana and Portland split their matchups last season, taking one apiece.
The Pacers won the last meeting 129-98 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on March 20. Oshae Brissett led the Pacers with 24 points and nine rebounds. Josh Hart had 26 points in the losing effort.
The Pacers have been led this season by Tyrese Haliburton (19.1 ppg), Bennedict Mathurin (18.9), and Turner (17.2). Haliburton leads the league in scoring. Turner also has grabbed 8.1 rebounds per game, most in the league, while Haliburton has dished 10.9 assists per game, most in the league.
Simons (24.8 ppg) and Jerami Grant (22.7) have supplied much of the Blazers’ offense. Simons leads the NBA in scoring, while Grant is first. Simons also has recorded 4.5 assists per game, most in the league. Jusuf Nurkic has posted 10.2 rebounds per game.
With 115.8 points per game, the Pacers are one of the top scoring offenses in the NBA (5th). The Pacers have struggled in recent games at Moda Center at the Rose Quarter, losing nine of the last 10. Portland is looking to reverse a three-game losing skid at home this season.
Meanwhile, the Trail Blazers are 2-2 when playing on consecutive nights this season and 1-1 in such games against opponents with at least a day of rest. The Pacers are 1-0 with a rest advantage.
