The Orlando Magic (22-33, 13-14 Home) will try to slow down one of the NBA’s top scoring teams when they host the Denver Nuggets (38-17, 12-13 Away) on Thursday. Denver blew out the Minnesota Timberwolves 146-112 at Ball Arena on Tuesday. With 30 points, Michael Porter Jr. was the scoring leader.
Nikola Jokic had a triple double with 20 points, 16 assists, and 12 rebounds. The Nuggets are 4.5 games ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies atop the Western Conference, currently sitting in first. Orlando dropped their last game on Tuesday at Amway Center, falling to the New York Knicks 102-98. Markelle Fultz had 21 points and six assists in the loss to lead the team.
The Magic are 13th in the Eastern Conference. It’s the final meeting of the season between the teams. Denver will be aiming for a season sweep against Orlando after triumphing in the only previous matchup 119-116 at Ball Arena on January 15.
Aaron Gordon led the Nuggets with 25 points, while Jokic had a triple double with 17 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds. Fultz had 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the losing effort. The Nuggets have been led this season by Jokic, who is averaging 24.7 points per game. Jokic also is contributing 11.3 rebounds and 10.2 assists per game, placing him sixth and second in the league, respectively.
Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner have supplied much of the Magic’s offense, averaging 20.2 and 19.4 points per game, respectively. Banchero has also tallied 6.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. The Nuggets rank as one of the highest-scoring offenses in the league, fifth-best with 117.4 points per game.
The Nuggets are 7-3 in the last 10 trips to Amway Center. Denver is seeking to snap a three-game road losing streak this season.
