The Charlotte Hornets (7-17, 3-9 Away) will try to slow down one of the NBA’s top shooting teams when they head to face the Brooklyn Nets (13-12, 8-5 Home) on Wednesday. Charlotte was narrowly defeated by the Los Angeles Clippers 119-117 at Spectrum Center on Monday.
With 28 points, Kelly Oubre Jr. was the leading scorer in the losing effort. PJ Washington was another key contributor with 26 points. The Hornets are the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference. Brooklyn lost on Sunday at Barclays Center, falling to the Boston Celtics 103-92.
Kevin Durant had 31 points and seven rebounds in the loss, carrying the team. The Nets are the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. The teams are meeting for the last time this season. After winning the only earlier season game against Charlotte 98-94 at Spectrum Center on November 5, Brooklyn will be pursuing a season sweep.
Durant led the Nets with 27 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Terry Rozier had 25 points in the losing effort. The Hornets have been led this season by Oubre Jr., who is averaging 20.1 points per game, best in the NBA.
Meanwhile, Mason Plumlee is contributing 9.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, placing him first and first in the league, respectively. Durant (29.9 ppg) has supplied much of the Nets’ offense. He has the No. 1 scoring average in the NBA. Durant also has doled out 5.4 assists per game, most in the NBA.
Nicolas Claxton has pulled down 8.8 rebounds per game. The Nets rank as one of the league’s most accurate field goal shooting teams, second-best at 49.4%.The teams have split their last 10 games at Barclays Center (5-5). Charlotte is looking to avoid a fourth successive road defeat this season.
