Hot-hitting Shohei Ohtani will be looking to extend his 10-game hitting streak as the Los Angeles Angels (38-31) match up against the Texas Rangers (41-25) at Globe Life Field on Wednesday.
The Angels lead the series 2-0 after winning 7-3 on Tuesday, their third head-to-head victory in five games this season. Jimmy Herget threw 1.1 scoreless innings of relief to get the win, and Carlos Estevez pitched 0.2 scoreless innings to earn his 18th save.
Ohtani was 2 for 2 with a double and two runs, walking three times, in the win. Chad Wallach added a double and two runs, walking twice. Corey Seager went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double for the Rangers. He scored two runs. Nathaniel Lowe also went 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs.
ON THE MOUND
Reid Detmers (1-5, 4.79 ERA) is slated to take the mound for Los Angeles. The LHP allowed one run over 5.2 innings in his last start, a 3-1 road win over the Cubs on Thursday. He was credited with the win, giving up five hits while striking out eight and walking two.
Detmers has made one previous start against the Rangers this season, a 10-1 home loss on May 6. He surrendered three runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out seven and walking two. Left-hander Andrew Heaney (4-4, 4.14 ERA) gets the start for Texas.
It’s his first appearance of the season against the Angels. In his last start on Friday, Heaney took the loss on the road against the Rays. He threw five innings and gave up four runs (3 ER) on four hits, striking out five and walking two in the 8-3 defeat.
