Juan Soto will be looking to extend his 21-game on-base streak as the San Diego Padres (40-46) host the Los Angeles Angels (45-43) at Petco Park on Wednesday with the home team eyeing a sweep of the three-game Interleague series.
The Padres lead the series 2-0 after winning 8-5 on Tuesday. Joe Musgrove went seven innings for the win, allowing one run on three hits and striking out 11, and Josh Hader pitched 0.2 scoreless innings to pick up his 19th save.
Jake Cronenworth went 3 for 4 with a home run and two doubles in the win. He had three RBIs. Xander Bogaerts added a home run, two runs, and three RBIs. Hunter Renfroe was 1 for 3 with a home run and two runs for the Angels. Jo Adell added a triple, one run, and one RBI.
ON THE MOUND
Patrick Sandoval (4-7, 4.69 ERA) is slated to start for Los Angeles. The lefty allowed seven runs over five innings in his last start, a 9-7 road defeat against the White Sox on Thursday. He took the loss, scattering eight hits while striking out eight and walking two.
For San Diego, right-hander Seth Lugo (3-4, 3.59 ERA) takes the mound. It’s his first appearance of the season against the Angels. Lugo made one appearance against the Angels in 2022, throwing 1.1 innings for the Mets in a 4-1 road win on June 12.
He struck out one and walked one. In his last start on Friday, Lugo took a no-decision on the road against the Reds. He threw six innings and gave up one run (0 ER) on five hits, striking out six, in the 7-5 loss.
