They won only one out of three in their last series against the Nationals, dropping the finale 7-1 on Sunday at Citi Field. Jeff McNeil was 2 for 2 with one RBI. The Pirates are in the midst of a nine-game homestand. They were just swept in three games against the Blue Jays, dropping the finale 4-3 on Sunday at PNC Park for their fourth straight loss. Oneil Cruz went 1 for 4 with a solo home run. The teams are meeting for the first time this season. In 2021, the Pirates won four of the seven games between the teams, including two out of three in their most recent meeting at PNC Park in July.
ON THE MOUND
Taijuan Walker (10-3, 3.45 ERA) is in line to take the mound for New York. The RHP allowed three runs over 5.1 innings in his last start, a 4-3 road defeat against the Dodgers on August 30.
