The San Diego Padres got a huge win in game one of this series and made some solid moves during and after the game as they acquired the Milwaukee Brewers star closer Josh Hader. The Padres will be looking to use that momentum to win game one of this doubleheader as well and potentially get a sweep and clinch the series all in one day. It’s going to be a NL West doubleheader on tap for us as the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres play games 2 and 3 of their five game series to start the month of August. Monday went well for the home Padres as they got the win as they try to keep an arms distance between them and the Phillies for that second wild card spot. The Rockies are just picking up where they left of in July as they ended that month 3-8 and are just fighting to stay out of last place at this point in the season. 

Fading the Rockies on the road has been a very profitable strategy for the past couple seasons and this is yet another great spot to do so as the Padres know they can’t afford to be losing these types of games at this point of the season. Give me the home team in this one.

The Seattle Mariners are coming into this game looking to bounce back after ethier huge five run loss in game one of this series. They fought hard but could only manage to put two runs on the board while they gave up seven of them to the New York Yankees. Despite the loss Seattle still comes into game two of this series with a winning record as they are currently 55-49 through their first 104 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. 

The New York Yankees have been the best team in all of Major League Baseball this season. They are by far the clear cut leader when it comes to being a contender to bring home the World Series this year as well. As they come into game two of this three game series with a record of 70-34 through their first 104 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have won six out of their last ten games on the season. I have them winning game two of this series as well.

The New York Yankees clinched their 31st consecutive winning record at home with their 7-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday night. This is thanks in large part to Aaron Judge, who hit his major league leading 43rd home run as they also became the first team this year to reach the 70 win plateau. It was also a big day for the Yankees off the diamond, as they acquired starting pitcher Frankie Montas, one of the best available on the market at the deadline, from the Oakland Athletics. It’s been a struggle for Seattle, who won 14 straight heading into the All Star Break but now has lost seven of 11 since the return. 

Starter Logan Gilbert will be tasked with stopping the bleeding against the loaded Yankees lineup that scored all their runs via the long ball on Monday. Jameson Taillon will be on the mound for New York and sports a record of 10-2 with a 3.72 ERA. It’s been a theme all season with the Mariners struggling against the top-tier teams and that’s the reason we faded them in the matchup on Monday and nothing changes here in this spot. Give me the red-hot Yankees to ride the momentum once again at home in a blowout win.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Tampa Bay Rays – 7:10PM ET

The Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays will be playing the first game of their two game series in this one. These two American League East teams have met twice already this season. The Rays currently lead the season series five games to three.

They’ve been hot lately as they’ve won eight out of their last 10 games on the season and come into this game on a two game winning streak. The Blue Jays quality season has been overshadowed by the massive success that the New York Yankees have had this year. While Toronto is in second place of the American League East division they are 11 1/2 games back of first at the moment. 

Much like the Toronto Blue Jays the Tampa Bay Rays are also having a pretty successful season. However, it was a rough weekend for them as they lost two out of three games to the Cleveland Guardians. They come into the first game of this short two game series with a record of 54-48 through their first 102 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have lost seven out of their last 10 games on the season and come into this game on a one game losing streak. I have them losing the opening game of the series as well.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays will start up an AL East series that will only go two games down in St. Petersburg. The two teams are only separated by three games in the standings but have been playing on two totally different levels at the moment. The Jays are rolling and are looking like a legitimate threat to make the postseason while the Rays are dropping a boatload of games and their playoff hopes continue to dwindle by the day. 

They’ve now lost three consecutive series since returning from the All Star Break and can not be feeling too good about their chances against this divisional foe. Drew Rasmussen will get the start for the Rays in the series opener and will be opposed by Kevin Gausman who lost his only other start in Tampa earlier this season. That was over two months ago at this point and with how good these Jays are playing I can’t pick against them especially not with these struggling Rays. Give me the Jays on the road here.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Cleveland Guardians will be playing the second game of their three game series in this one. This is the first and only time these two teams will meet this season. In game number one the Guardians picked up the victory. Now they will be looking to clinch the series in game two.

The Arizona Diamondbacks put up a great effort in game one of this series against the Cleveland Guardians but ended up falling short in extra innings. It was a tight game throughout and the Diamondbacks had plenty of chances to win this game but couldn’t capitalize and bring home the win. Now they will be looking to bounce back here in game number of this series as they will look to avoid losing the series and potentially being swept as well. The Diamondbacks come into game two of this series with a record of 45-57 through their first 102 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. 

The Cleveland Guardians will be looking to use the momentum from their win here in game one to wrap up the series victory in game two and set up a sweep in game three. They come into the second game of this series with a record of 53-49 through their first 102 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. The Guardians have won five out of their last ten games on the year and come into this game on a two game winning streak. They also find themselves only one game back of the Twins for the division lead.

The homestand and the month of August got off to a great start for the Cleveland Guardians who picked up a walk-off victory in the series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cleveland needed a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the 10th from Andres Gimenez to force an 11th inning where Eddie Rosario walked things off with an RBI single of his own. 

The Minnesota Twins also won on Monday so the Guardians stay at second place in the AL Central but they will take that over losing ground in the race any day. It’s now 4 losses in a row for the Diamondbacks who will hope their ace Zac Gallen can turn things around for them. Gallen has not lost a start since back in June but there are 7 no decisions mixed in there so it usually comes down to the bullpen who collapsed on Monday. I like Cleveland a lot in this series and so I’m taking them yet again on Tuesday with the young and promising pitcher Triston McKenzie on the mound.

The Guardians will start Triston McKenzie tonight who is 7-7 for the season with a 3.24 ERA. Cleveland has won 5 of the last 6 second games of a series and 6 of the last 8 home games.

The Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels will be playing the first game of their three game series in this one. These two American League West teams have met twice already this season. The Angels currently lead the season series five games to two.

It’s been a rough season for the Oakland Athletics and now there are several rumors linking them to several trades at the deadline on August 2nd. They come into game one of this series with a record of 39-65 through their first 104 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season. They have spent the majority of the year in last place in the American League West division as they currently find themselves twenty eight and a half games out of first place and all but officially eliminated but playoff contention at this point. 

The Los Angeles Angels are going down a similar path as the Oakland Athletics. When you consider where they started the season at, this seems all that more disappointing for a team that had such high expectations heading into the 2022 Major League Baseball season. After a managerial change and several injuries and issues they come into game one of this series and day two of August with a record of 43-59 through their first 102 games of the 2022 Major League Baseball season.

The Oakland Athletics are in full sell mode as the trade deadline approaches as they’ve sent Frankie Montas to the New York Yankees on Monday. That is significant because Montas was scheduled to start this game against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday but will now be replaced by Cole Irvin who had a pretty impressive month of July on the mound. 

Angels pitcher Noah Syndergaard will keep his eyes glued to the news as he could also be on the move ahead of the deadline, but if stays put he will be getting the start on Tuesday. It would be his first career start against Oakland who won seven of ten to close the month of July. Their offense is starting to click and the confidence is building while the Angels are in a free fall. Give me the As no matter what happens at the deadline at 3 pm.
