Yordan Alvarez will be looking to extend his 24-game on-base streak as the Houston Astros (16-14) host the San Francisco Giants (12-17) at Minute Maid Park on Wednesday with the three-game Interleague series all square at 1-1.
The Giants evened the series 1-1 after winning 2-0 on Tuesday. Starter Anthony DeSclafani threw eight scoreless innings for the win, and Camilo Doval earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth. Thairo Estrada was 2 for 3 with one run in the win. Yainer Diaz went 2 for 3 with a double for the Astros.
ON THE MOUND
Logan Webb (1-5, 4.10 ERA) is slated for the start for San Francisco. The RHP ranks fifth in the NL in strikeouts (43). Webb allowed two runs over 6.2 innings in his last start, a 6-0 home defeat against the Cardinals on Thursday.
He took the loss, scattering seven hits while striking out seven and walking one. Lefty Framber Valdez (2-3, 2.54 ERA) will toe the rubber for Houston.
It’s his first appearance of the season against the Giants. In his last start on Friday, Valdez took the loss at home against the Phillies. He threw seven innings and gave up three runs on eight hits, striking out three, in the 3-1 defeat.
