Milwaukee Brewers @ Detroit Tigers – 6.40PM ET

After taking on one division leader, the Rays, over the weekend and coming out on top, winning 2-1, the Detroit Tigers now turn their attention to another, the Milwaukee Brewers. These sides face off for just two games this week with tonight’s opening clash seeing the battle of the two Peralta’s take place.

Tim Newton

As alluded to in the game intro, both teams are starting Peralta for this clash and Milwaukee’s Peralta, Freddy, is much better than Detroit’s, Wily. This should give Milwaukee, who are already a much better team anyway, the edge for this one and start their week off well. Wily is just 3-3 with a 3.60 ERA this season but when looking over his last seven games, he has been even worse with a 0-1 record and 4.88 ERA.

When comparing this to Freddy, it is clear to see why the Brewers should come out on top. A 9-4 record is accompanied by a 2.69 ERA however he has given up 3+ runs in each of his last three outings and could allow Detroit to stay in this clash. Ultimately, Milwaukee are the better team from top to bottom and should come out on top.

Tim’s MLB Pick: Milwaukee Brewers (-210)

Katherine Mouradian

Just a quick two game series between the Brewers and the Tigers kicks off on Tuesday night. The Brewers are coming off a 3-0 series victory against the Indians, and have now won five games in a row. The Tigers are flying high after a 2-1 series victory over none other than the AL East leading Rays.

Digging into some key stats now! The Brewers have won all six of their previous games on a Tuesday, and they have won 48 of their previous 64 clashes after they had a win. Over to the Tigers now, they have won six of their previous seven games after a day off, and they have won 18 of their previous 25 games on a Tuesday. The Brewers have played very well this season on the road, and considering they are on a great winning streak, I’ll be backing the Brewers for this one.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: Milwaukee Brewers (-210)

Mike Su

The Brewers have been playing phenomenal baseball lately and are currently on a 5 game winning streak. In their last 14 games they have won 11 big matchups including multiple wins over the Giants, Cardinals, Phillies and Indians. They have been tough to beat, especially since their batting, defense and pitching has started clicking. In the Brewers last 5 games they have only allowed 7 runs, but they have scored 38 runs. This is a 31 run differential in just 5 games. The Brewers will be facing a Tigers team that is out of the running to make the playoffs but have won 2 games against the reigning champion Tampa Bay Rays recently.

In this matchup the Brewers will not be taking the foot off the pedal against their 68-win opponent. They will be deploying Freddy Peralta to take care of the Tigers. Peralta has been one of the league’s best this year with a 2.69 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 172 strikeouts in 127 innings. Peralta should have a field day against the Tigers’ 18th ranked batting unit. The Brewers should win this easily and continue their recent dominance.

Mike’s MLB Pick: Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (-132)

New York Yankees @ Baltimore Orioles – 7.05PM ET

The Baltimore Orioles host the New York Yankees in this AL East clash that has no impact on the Orioles but means everything for the Yankees. Following their 6-5 win over Minnesota yesterday, New York is now tied with Boston for the last Wild Card in the American League, with wins meaning everything in the last three weeks of the season.

Tim Newton

Can the Yankees really be trusted? They are clearly the best team in this matchup but their recent form is actually worse than Baltimore’s. New York has won just two of their last eight games while Baltimore, who are 34 wins worse in the standings, have managed three wins from their last eight. In saying that, I won’t be betting against the Yankees, especially in this clash.

Gerrit Cole is starting for the Yankees and he will come out with a point to prove following a disappointing game last time out. Before starting against the Blue Jays last week, Cole had started in four games since the start of August and gave up just two runs across 24.2 innings in those four games. However against Toronto, he gave up three runs on five hits in just 3.2 innings of work. Given Cole has given up just 53 runs in 158.2 innings of work for the entire season, I’m expecting a much better performance, especially against the lowly Orioles.

Tim’s MLB Pick: New York Yankees -1.5 (-205)

Katherine Mouradian

The Yankees and the Orioles face off against each other in a three game series. The Yankees are coming off a 2-2 series tie with the Mets, then a win against the Twins, 6-5, in the 10th innings. The Orioles are coming off a 1-3 series loss to the Blue Jays and were absolutely demolished last time out, losing the game 7-22. The Yankees have won none of their previous six games when playing a team in the AL East, and they have won 51 of their previous 75 games on a Tuesday.

Over to the Orioles now, they have won 23 of their previous 75 games at home, and they have won 23 of their previous 89 after they have had a day off. This is just the series the Yankees need to keep their Wild Card playoff spot alive, but saying it will be easy to beat the Orioles and actually beating them are two different things. The Yankees are still in third place for a Wild Card spot in the AL, so the pressure is on them, but I think they will rise to the occasion.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: New York Yankees (-360)

Mike Su

After stopping their slide with a close win against Minnesota, the Yankees look to try to build some momentum going into the postseason. On top of that, the Yankees are also fighting for the 2nd spot in the AL East against the Blue Jays and Red Sox. The Yankees desperately need to stack on more wins after losing 8 of their last 10 games. They will have a chance to do that against the league’s worst team, the Baltimore Orioles.

The Orioles are at the bottom of the AL East and sit a staggering 33.5 games behind the 4th ranked Red Sox. The Orioles have been a trainwreck this season with just 46 total wins. They will likely look like a train wreck in the first game of this matchup as they are starting Alexander Wells. Wells has been bad in limited playing time. In 22.2 innings, Wells has a 7.15 ERA and atrocious 1.90 WHIP. The Yankees should have a field day against Wells. The Yankees should win by at least 2 runs in this matchup.

Mike’s MLB Pick: New York Yankees -1.5 (-205)

Tampa Bay Rays @ Toronto Blue Jays – 7.07PM ET

The Toronto Blue Jays continued their good form with a thumping of the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays last night, winning 8-1. That was Toronto’s 12th win from their last 13 games while Tampa have now dropped four of their last five.

Tim Newton

I’m picking the Rays to cause the upset and put an end to Toronto’s hot streak tonight. While the Blue Jays have looked unstoppable over the last two weeks, the starting pitcher decisions have me thinking that this is the perfect opportunity for anyone to get on top of them, especially when it is Tampa on the other side.

Jose Berrios is starting for the in-form Blue Jays and he has given up 19 runs over his last six games, with four of those seeing him give away 3+. Given the Rays have scored the most runs of any side this season, whilst ranking 10th for OPS and eighth for hits, they are the perfect team to take advantage of Barrios and his poor recent form. Given Tampa are starting Drew Rasmussen, who has given up just four runs from his last five starts, I think this presents as the perfect opportunity for an upset.

Tim’s MLB Pick: Tampa Bay Rays (+120)

Katherine Mouradian

This is the middle game in the series between the Rays and the Blue Jays, and the Blue Jays have continued their unbelievable month of September with a win against the Rays last time out, 8-1. The Blue Jays have only lost one game so far this month, and it has helped propel them to the first spot in the Wild Card for the AL. The Rays are still sitting pretty at the top of the AL East, eight games ahead of the Blue Jays.

Over to some stats now. The Rays have won 20 of their previous 28 games on the road and they have won all five of their previous games on a Tuesday. When it comes to the Blue Jays, they have won 16 of their previous 21 overall and they have won all four of their previous games at home. I am fully onboard this Blue Jays train and I don’t want it to end! But I’m liking the look of the over for this game, the over has hit in six of the Rays previous eight games overall and in four of their Blue Jays previous five games overall.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: Over 9 (-106)

Mike Su

After obliterating the Rays in an 8-1 beatdown, the Blue Jays look to score another win in the 2nd game of this in-season series. The Blue Jays have been one of the best teams in baseball recently dominating some of the best teams in the league. In their last 13 games, they’ve lost just 1 game with wins against the Rays and Yankees. Marquee batter Vladimir Guerrero Jr has also been playing extremely well and scored his 45th home run this season in his last game, overtaking Shohei Ohtani for the lead.

The Rays will be starting Drew Rasmussen to try and stop this formidable batting lineup. Rasmussen has been great in limited time with a 2.86 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 2-1 record this season, 2-0 in games for Tampa. Rasmussen may have a tough time against a top 2 batting unit but if he can maintain his pace, he might create problems. The Blue Jays will be starting Joe Berrios who has been good all season with a 3.52 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 11-7 record this season. Berrios will be facing the league’s best batting unit. I don’t think the Rays will be held to just 1 run again, and game 2 of this matchup will be wildly different. I think the Rays dominate and show the Blue Jays why they were last season’s champs.

Mike’s MLB Pick: Tampa Bay Rays (+120)

San Diego Padres @ San Francisco Giants – 9.45PM ET

On the back of their 9-1 win last night, the San Francisco Giants will be looking to continue their good form going into the second game of this series against the San Diego Padres. That win was their eighth straight and also allowed them to become the first team to clinch a playoff berth, while the Padres have dropped four straight and are a half game out of a Wild Card slot.

Tim Newton

The Giants dominated last night and I think they will do more of the same in this one. While the result may have been more lopsided than the game actually seemed, given the Giants had eight hits to San Diego’s seven, the scoreboard does tell us a lot about the difference between how the two teams play on both sides of the ball.

Looking ahead to tonight’s clash, San Diego has Jake Arrieta starting and that should allow San Francisco to pile on the runs yet again. Arrieta has a 5-12 record and an ERA of 7.04, highlighting that he hasn’t been favorable for the Padres, who have a 74-69 record for the season. Add in the fact that San Francisco has one of their best starters, Anthony DeSclafani, with the ball first, this one could get ugly early.

Tim’s MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants -1.5 (+112)

Katherine Mouradian

The Padres and the Giants face off in the second game of a four game series on Tuesday night, and aren’t the Giants on fire! The Giants have only lost two games so far this month, and are currently on an eight game winning streak. The Padres are currently on a four game losing streak, and lost their last game to the Giants, 1-9. Now, let’s look at the key stats for this matchup.

The Padres have won just three of their previous 16 games against a team in the NL West, and they have won none of their previous four games on the road. Over to the Giants now, they have won nine of their previous 11 when it comes to the second game of the series, and they have won four of their previous five games on a Tuesday. The Padres have also struggled with their scoring as of late, and in their previous four games, they have scored five runs, but allowed 25. With the struggles Arrieta has been facing as of late, I’m going to stick with the Giants again.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants (-168)

Mike Su

The Giants have been insane recently with an 8 game winning streak which started when the Dodgers threatened their division lead. The Giants have shown why they are the best regular season team in the MLB down the stretch. In their last game the Giants obliterated the Padres in a 9-1 beatdown which saw their relief pitcher have his way.

The Padres will now be facing Anthony DeSclafani at starting pitcher. DeSclafani has been great this season with a 3.33 ERA and 1.12 WHIP In 146 innings. The Padres pitching situation looks significantly worse with Jake Arrieta starting. Arrieta has not been good this year with a 7.04 ERA and 1.73 WHIP leading to a 5-12 record. Arrieta will be facing the league’s 7th best batting unit who is ranked 2nd in the league for home runs. The Giants should have some explosive innings against Arrieta in this matchup. The Giants have the edge in batting and pitching and will win this one easily.

Mike’s MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants -1.5 (+112)

Boston Red Sox @ Seattle Mariners – 10.10PM ET

The Seattle Mariners caused the upset at home last night, defeating the Boston Red Sox 5-4 and keeping their postseason chances alive. With both sides chasing a Wild Card slot in the American League, Boston is tied with the Yankees for the last one while Seattle sits two games back, meaning both sides have everything on the line in this game.

Tim Newton

If I had to pick a side to win this, I would go with the Red Sox to bounce back, but I am taking the over as my top pick for this clash. The total is set at eight runs for this game, last night’s clash reached nine and both sides are starting pitchers that leave a lot to be desired. Boston’s Nathan Eovaldi has pretty good numbers of 10-8 with a 3.57 ERA but when pitching on the road he is just 4-5 with a 4.87 ERA.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s Tyler Anderson has a 6-9 record, a 4.20 ERA and has given up 10 runs across his last three games. I don’t really like betting outright in this market normally, especially with baseball being so tough to predict at the best of times but with clear skies and minimal wind, this seems like a perfect opportunity to launch into the over.

Tim’s MLB Pick: Over 8 (-118)

Katherine Mouradian

This will be the middle game in the series between the Red Sox and the Mariners. The Mariners narrowly took out the first game, winning 5-4. This win for the Mariners was much needed as they had lost two games in a two to the Diamondbacks. Both the Red Sox and the Mariners are in contention for an AL Wild Card spot, so a win for both these teams is critical.

Over to the key stats for this game now, the Red Sox have won seven of their previous 24 games on the road, and have won just two of their previous eight overall. Looking at the Mariners now, they have won 11 of their previous 16 when they were the underdog playing at home, and they have won eight of their previous 11 in total. The Mariners were good enough to get it done in the first game, and I think this second game will be another close one. I’ll be on the Mariners to cover the spread.

Katherine’s MLB Pick: Seattle Mariners -1.5 (-140)

Mike Su

The Red Sox will be playing the Mariners in a game that is crucial for their playoff standings. The Red Sox currently sit at 4th in the AL East division but are just 1 game behind the 2nd ranked Blue Jays. The Red Sox need to win this match after losing 2 games in a row. In a tight game that saw the Mariners beat the Red Sox 5-4, Seattle had 3 runs in the 7th innings. The Red Sox were never able to recover from that despite replying with 2 runs in the 8th inning.

I don’t think another tight win like this will happen again for the Mariners. The Red Sox have been one of the best batting teams in the league recently and should be able to score more than 4 runs, especially looking at the Mariners’ starting pitcher. They will be starting Tyler Anderson who has been relatively good with a 3.83 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 44 innings. However, Anderson has a career 4.54 ERA and I think he will struggle against the Red Sox in this game as he faces better competition than what he has faced this season.

Mike’s MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox -1.5 (+116)
