Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Diego Padres – 4:10PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres will be playing the second game of their short two game series here on Tuesday afternoon. In game number one it was the San Diego Padres who picked up the victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 5-4 on Monday night. Now the San Diego Padres will be looking to complete the sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks here on Tuesday evening. Both of these teams had very similar starts to the 2023 Major League Baseball season, as they come into this one only separated by a single game in the National League West division standings. Arizona comes into this game with a record of 2-3 while San Diego is 3-2 through their first five games of the season.

Zac Gallen will be making his second start of the season already after getting the nod on opening day last Thursday for the Arizona Diamondbacks. It wasn’t his best performance as he went four and two thirds innings and gave up three walks, six hits, and five earned runs in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. One bright spot he did have, was his seven strikeouts against arguably one of the best lineups in all of Major League Baseball. Meanwhile Yu Darvish will be making his season debut in this one for the San Diego Padres, as they look to win their fourth game in a row after starting the season 0-2. However, I am going with the Diamondbacks and Zac Gallen to get the win in this one.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Arizona Diamondbacks (+125)

Minnesota Twins @ Miami Marlins – 6:40PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Minnesota Twins and Miami Marlins will be playing the second game of their three game series here on Tuesday afternoon. In game number one it was the Minnesota Twins who absolutely crushed the Miami Marlins and picked up the victory by a score of 11-1 on Monday night. Now the Minnesota Twins will be looking to clinch the series and set up the opportunity for a three game sweep here on Tuesday evening. The first game of the series wasn’t even close and now Miami will be looking to regroup here in game number two.

It was an early start for Minnesota last night as they scored eight of their eleven runs by the time the middle innings came around. By the time Miami pulled a run back late in the eighth inning it was just too big of a hill to conquer for the Marlins and they would end up losing by 10 runs in a day full of tons of blowouts around Major League Baseball. Now in game two Kenta Maeda will be making his season debut for the Twins while Sandy Alcantara takes the mound for his second start of the year for Miami. Due to the pitching matchup, this one could arguably go either way, but I’m gonna go with Miami and Alcântara as he looked impressive on opening day, despite not picking up the victory.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Miami Marlins (-155)

Tampa Bay Rays @ Washington Nationals – 7:05PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Tampa Bay Rays and Washington Nationals will be playing the second game of their three game series here on Tuesday afternoon. In game number one it was the Tampa Bay Rays who picked up the victory over the Washington Nationals by a score of 6-2 on Monday night. Now Tampa Bay will be looking to clinch the series and set up the opportunity for a sweep of the Nationals here on Tuesday evening. Much like they have been all season, Tampa Bay just kept on cruising and now they come into game two of the series still undefeated. Meanwhile Washington dropped the third game of the season out of four games and are still searching for answers after the rough start.

Tampa Bay got an early start and this one as four of their six runs came in the early part of the matchup before getting to the middle innings of the game. As they had four runs by the end of the fourth inning and arguably had this one put away early. On the mound for game two, Josh Fleming (TB) and Chad Kuhl (WAS) will both be making their season debuts here in this one on Tuesday. That is about the only unknown that we will have in this game as prior results this season can tell you, Tampa Bay should win this one comfortably over an absolutely terrible Nationals team. So I’m going with Tampa Bay to cover the run line and pick up the victory.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

TB Rays -1.5 (-110)

Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Yankees – 7:05PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees will be playing the second game of their three game series here on Tuesday afternoon. In game number one it was the New York Yankees who picked up the victory over the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 8-1 on Monday night. Now the New York Yankees will be looking to clinch the series against the Philadelphia Phillies here on Tuesday evening and give themselves the opportunity to sweep Philadelphia on Wednesday as well. This one wasn’t even close last night and the struggles for the Phillies just seem to continue well into the second series of the season as well. As they are still searching for their first victory of the year.

It seems to be a common theme yesterday, but a lot of the games were blowouts, and a lot of them started early as the Yankees jumped on the Phillies in the bottom of the first inning. All the runs in this one were scored during the first half of the game and by the time the sixth inning came around it was 8 to 1 New York. Taijuan Walker looked absolutely terrible in his Philadelphia Phillies debut. New York has now won their last two games by two or more runs with victories over San Francisco and Philadelphia. This is also the third time in for games that Philadelphia has lost by more than a single run. So I’ll look for that trend to continue as I have the Yankees covering the run line in this game. Matt Strahm and Domingo German will both be making their first starts of the season in this one.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

NY Yankees -1.5 (-160)

Toronto Blue Jays @ Kansas City Royals – 7:40PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals will be playing the second game of their four game series here on Tuesday afternoon. In game number one it was the Kansas City Royals who picked up the victory over the Toronto Blue Jays by a score of 9-5 on Monday night. Now the Kansas City Royals will be looking to clinch a share of the series against the Toronto Blue Jays here on Tuesday evening. Both of these teams are having very similar starts to the season and they have both been very disappointing throughout their first four games of the year. They both come into this game with only one victory in four games on the year and will both be looking to bounce back against each other. The sad part of it is that Toronto is supposed to have one of the most talented teams in baseball, and they have looked very underwhelming thus far.

Yet another trend continued last night as the blowouts or wide spread around the league and the runs were coming early as well. Kansas City jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning and put up three runs on Toronto. They added four more runs in the fourth inning and by the time Toronto got on the board Kansas City was up 7-1. Toronto attempted to muster a comeback as they scored in each of the last three innings, but it was just too little too late for the Blue Jays on Monday night. Now they will look to bounce back and get a victory on Tuesday with Yusei Kikuchi making a season debut for them. Meanwhile, Kris Bubic will be on the mound for Kansas City. I think it’ll be the Blue Jays to pick up the victory in game number two in a nice bounce back performance.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Toronto Blue Jays (-175)
