Two of the fiercest rivals in sport will kick off the second half of the 2021 MLB season when the New York Yankees host the Boston Red Sox for our only game on today’s baseball schedule.

Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees – 7.08PM ET
As it stands, the Red Sox have an impressive 6-0 record against the Yankees in 2021. Thursday will be their seventh meeting of the season and it will kick off an 11 game stretch (10 for New York) that will see the two AL East rivals meet on eight occasions.

Seeing as Boston owns a 6-0 record against New York in 2021 and they have outscored them 36-17 in that time, I like the Red Sox to win this matchup on the road. Considering that neither Rodriguez or Montgomery have had a great first half of the season with the ball, Boston’s lineup, who are averaging 5.09 runs per game, should lead the Red Sox to a victory on the road on Thursday. I like J.D Martinez (.299 with 18 homers and 62 RBIs), Xander Bogaerts (.321 with 15 homers and 51 RBIs) and Rafael Devers (.282 with 22 homers and 72 RBIs) to lead the Boston to a seventh consecutive victory over New York on Thursday at underdog odds.
Jesse’s MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox / O 9.5 (+276)
Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers will be the 1st teammates to start at SS/3B in the @AllStarGame for the AL since Derek Jeter and @AROD in 2011. #TBT pic.twitter.com/Xd7bota52n

The Red Sox may be on top of the AL East and 6-0 against the Yankees this season, but New York, at home, are favorites for a reason. Boston come into this one losing their last two games before the All Star break and four of their last six, losing two straight series to the Phillies and Angels, who are 0.500 and 0.506 respectively. New York on the other hand come in winning four of their last six, winning three-game series against the Astros and Mariners, who are 0.604 and 0.527 respectively. The break may have come at a perfect time for the Red Sox to be able to re-group and get back to their winning ways but their current form isn’t great. However, given they are 6-0 against New York this season, are 27-17 on the road, the best road record in the MLB, and two of the Yankee’s four wins came by just one run, I prefer the decreased odds but added comfort of getting Boston with 1.5 runs in hand.
Tim’s MLB Pick: Boston Red Sox +1.5 (-164)
Katherine Mouradian
Last time the Red Sox and Yankees met in late June, the Red Sox were able to sweep the Yankees. The Red Sox are also 6-1 in their previous seven games played on a Thursday, and they are 21-7 in their previous 28 games playing a team in the AL East. On the other hand, the Yankees are 5-2 in their previous seven games overall, but they are 3-7 in their previous 10 when playing a team in the AL East. With all these stats seemingly favoring the Red Sox, it’s surprising where their odds are currently sitting. I think there is value in the Red Sox tonight!
