The Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox both have nothing left to play for this season. As both of them came into the year with plenty of expectations but neither team has lived up to those expectations. They are both going to miss out on the playoffs, and they will both likely finish the year with losing records as well after they were both considered to be potential favorites to win their divisions. Both Chicago and Boston will be looking to build up momentum towards next season as they look to head into the off-season on a positive note, and it starts with one of them grabbing a victory in the finale of this series on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park. 

The Chicago White Sox come into this game with a record of 59-96 through their first 155 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season and the Boston Red Sox come into this game with a record of 76-79 through their first 155 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. In the end, I expect the Boston Red Sox to pick up the victory over the Chicago White Sox here on Sunday afternoon at home as they look to at least finish the season with a winning record in the American League East division. I expect Boston to win this game by a comfortable margin over a struggling Chicago team.

Pittsburgh Pirates @ Cincinnati Reds – 1:40PM ET

The Pittsburgh Pirates had a fantastic start to the season after winning 22 out of the first 30 games of the year. At one point in the year they had the best record in the National League, but they were unable to maintain that momentum and they now find themselves well out of the playoff race coming into the final week of the season. They will be looking to spoil the Cincinnati Reds playoff hopes by winning the finale of this series, and grabbing their third consecutive victory over Cincinnati this weekend after coming back from a huge deficit in the game on Saturday night to pick up the victory over the Reds. With their win on Saturday night the Pittsburgh Pirates improved to 74-81 on the year.

Coming into the weekend the Cincinnati Reds were in a great position to make the postseason, but with each loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates over the last two nights, they can quickly feel their playoff spot slipping away. This game on Sunday afternoon against Pittsburgh at home feels like a must win game for Cincinnati if they want to keep themselves in the race for the National League wildcard with only a week remaining in the regular season. Cincinnati has now fallen a few more games back after consecutive losses, but I expect them to bounce back in this game on Sunday afternoon and pick up a much-needed victory.

Milwaukee Brewers @ Miami Marlins – 1:40PM ET

The Milwaukee Brewers have already clinched the National League Central division so they do not have much left to play for over the last week of the regular season. However, they can still spoil the Miami Marlins playoff hopes by picking up another victory over Miami here on Sunday afternoon on the road as they look to close out the regular season on a high note and build up plenty of momentum heading into the playoffs. Milwaukee comes into the finale of this series after already picking up one victory over Miami this weekend, and they will be looking to officially take the series with another victory here on Sunday.

Every game coming down the final stretch of the season feels like a must win game for the Miami Marlins, and they will be looking to pick up their second consecutive victory over the Milwaukee Brewers here on Sunday afternoon. Miami was able to bounce back after they were thrashed on Friday and pick up a quality victory here on Saturday and now they will be looking to replicate that performance on Sunday afternoon as they look to get themselves in position to grab one of the three wildcard spots in the National League. That is exactly what I expect as I look for the Miami Marlins to pick up the victory here on Sunday afternoon over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Kansas City Royals @ Houston Astros – 2:10PM ET

The Kansas City Royals coming to this game with nothing left to play for this season, but they do have an opportunity to try and spoil the defending World Series champions hopes of potentially clinching the American League West division. Kansas City hasn’t had much to brag about this season as they have been one of the worst teams in all of baseball but a victory on Sunday over Houston would give them plenty of momentum as they had into the final week of the regular season. They come into this game having already lost over 100 games on the season and it seems like a long rebuild is still ahead of them, after spending most of the last decade rebuilding. 

The Houston Astros come into the finale of this series against the Kansas City Royals looking to pick up a crucial victory as they look to close out the American League West division over the final week of the season. Houston had a slow start to the year but they picked it up over the summer and they now have themselves in a position to clinch yet another division title and give themselves an opportunity to defend their World Series championship from last season. I look for the Houston Astros to grab a comfortable victory in the finale of the series against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon at home.

Colorado Rockies @ Chicago Cubs – 2:20PM ET

It has been a long season for the Colorado Rockies and they showed little progress on their rebuild. They have been one of the worst teams in all of baseball this season, and it looks as if they still have a long time to go before they are a contender once again. I will be looking to crush the hopes of the Chicago Cubs with a victory here on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. As they look to help spoil the Cubs chances of making the postseason by derailing them in this game in the finale of this series. However, that will be no easy task, as Colorado has been blown out over the first two games of the series. 

The Chicago Cubs will be looking to pick up a crucial victory over the Colorado Rockies in the finale of this series on Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Chicago has already picked up a pair of victories over the Colorado Rockies throughout the first two games of the series this weekend and they will be looking to complete the three game sweep here on Sunday afternoon at home. Every game from here on out for the Chicago Cubs feels like a must win game for them as they look to chase down a playoff spot in the National League. That is exactly what I expect, as I look for Chicago to grab their third consecutive victory over Colorado, and their third win in a row to top off this series.
