Detroit Tigers @ Tampa Bay Rays – 1:10PM ET

The Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays will be playing the third game of their three game weekend series in this one on Sunday afternoon. This series has been slightly lopsided throughout the first two contests as the Detroit Tigers have yet to get a victory and now look to avoid a sweep here on Sunday.

Tony Battalio

The Detroit Tigers are having a very rough start to the 2023 Major League Baseball season. As they come into the third and final game of this three game weekend series still searching for their first victory of the season. Now only have they lost the first two games of the year, they have failed to be even the slightest bit competitive in both games. On Thursday they were defeated by a score of 4-0 and it got much worse on Saturday, as Tampa Bay blasted them by a score of 12-2. Now they will be looking to salvage a bit of momentum heading into the week with a victory in Sunday’s finale.

The Tampa Bay Rays have looked incredible throughout the first couple of games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. They have gotten off to a very hot start and picked up the first two victories of the year against the Detroit Tigers. Now they come into Sunday’s matchup against Detroit looking to complete the three game sweep to open up their season at home. their pitching and their hitting has both looked fantastic throughout the first couple of games as they have already scored 16 runs on the season while only giving up two runs to Detroit. I expect a similar outcome and Game number three as I have Tampa Bay completing the weekend series sweep.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

TB Rays (-250)

Atlanta Braves @ Washington Nationals – 1:35PM ET

The Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals will be playing the third game of their three game weekend series in this one on Sunday afternoon. This series has been slightly lopsided throughout the first two contests as the Washington Nationals have yet to get a victory and now look to avoid a sweep here on Sunday.

Tony Battalio

Atlanta is another team that has gotten off to a very hot start the season as they come into this one undefeated through their first two ball games of the year. They have absolutely dominated the Washington Nationals throughout the first two games of their series, and now they will be looking to complete the three-game series sweep here on Sunday. Not only have they gotten off to a hot start, they have gotten off to a very hot start within the National League East division and there isn’t much better that you could ask for. They have scored 14 runs in two games while only relinquishing three runs to Washington.

If the Washington Nationals want to pick up their first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, they will have to avoid allowing Atlanta to jump all over them early. It has been two games in a row now that the Atlanta Braves have jumped out to an early lead within the first three innings of the ball game against Washington to open up the season. If they can contain the red hot Braves offense throughout the early innings of this matchup, they have the chance to get their first victory of the season. However, given their track record already I don’t see that happening as I think Atlanta picks up their third victory in a row on Sunday.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Atlanta Braves (-175)

Baltimore Orioles @ Boston Red Sox – 1:30PM ET

The Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox will be playing the third game of their three game weekend series in this one on Sunday afternoon. This series has been even throughout the first two contests as the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox have each picked up a victory and now look to take the series here on Sunday.

Tony Battalio

The Baltimore Orioles lost a tough one on Saturday after opening up their season on Thursday, with a similar type of victory in a high scoring contest against the Boston Red Sox. The third game of their three game weekend series is expected to be just as exciting as the first couple were, as you can expect more runs being scored and plenty of highlight plays coming from the game. The Baltimore Orioles have looked solid at the plate, but their pitching certainly needs some work as they’ve already given up nearly 20 runs, and only two games of action. But as previously mentioned, they can hang their hat on the fact that they are producing runs themselves heading into game three.

It’s a similar story for the Boston Red Sox as their offense seems to be clicking on all cylinders, but their pitching could use some work as well. They managed to pull out the victory on Saturday behind a great performance at the plate from several key members of the roster. However, if they want to sustain long-term success throughout the season they will need to avoid giving up as many runs. They have throughout the first couple games of the year. The third game of the series is likely going to be just like the first two and that means a lot of runs scored in this one and a lack of effective pitching. I think it’ll be the Baltimore Orioles that pick up the crucial victory to clinch the series here on Sunday during the finale.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Baltimore Orioles (+120)

San Francisco Giants @ New York Yankees – 1:35PM ET

The New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants will be playing the third game of their three game weekend series in this one on Sunday afternoon. This series has been even throughout the first two contests as the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants have each picked up a victory and now look to take the series here on Sunday.

Tony Battalio

It was a solid showing for the San Francisco Giants in the second game of the three game weekend series against the New York Yankees on Saturday. As they use some effective hitting and timely pitching to get themselves a much-needed victory over New York to even the series at one game apiece heading into Sunday’s finale. Now they will be looking to shock the baseball world, and open up the season by taking two out of three games from the Yankees in the Bronx here on Sunday afternoon. Ross Stripling will make his season debut for the San Francisco Giants in this one on the mound.

The New York Yankees looked very solid to open up their season on Thursday afternoon, but they looked just as bad on Saturday afternoon as they failed to generate effective pitching throughout the game. The middle innings caught up to them rather quickly, and the San Francisco Giants took full advantage of that and port, on the majority of their runs towards the middle and end of the game. Now they will be searching for their bounce back victory to preserve the series and take two out of three from San Francisco at home to open up the season. Jhony Brito will make his Major League Baseball debut on the mound in this one, and I think the Yankees will pull out the win in a high scoring matchup.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

NY Yankees (-150)

Philadelphia Phillies @ Texas Rangers – 7PM ET

The Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers will be playing the third game of their three game weekend series in this one on Sunday afternoon. This series has been slightly lopsided throughout the first two contests as the Philadelphia Phillies have yet to get a victory and now look to avoid a sweep here on Sunday.

Tony Battalio

It has been an absolutely abysmal start to the season for the Philadelphia Phillies through their first two games of the year. They have been absolutely pounded by the Texas Rangers twice and now they will go into the finale of the series on Sunday looking to avoid a three-game sweep to open up the season. Philadelphia cannot seem to keep runs off the board for the other team as Texas has absolutely jumped all over Phillies pitching, including Saturday when they scored 16 runs. On Thursday to open up the year Philadelphia’s offense looked decent but Saturday they looked almost nonexistent. They will have to find a way to recover in this game on Sunday, otherwise they are likely going to start their season 0-3.

The Texas Rangers finally seem to have put the pieces together if you’re taking the data from the first two games of the season. They have looked absolutely incredible through their first two games of the year as they have dominated Philadelphia and now look to complete the three game weekend sweep here on Sunday evening. Despite a rocky start on Thursday afternoon, they took total control in the game on Saturday as they managed to score double digit runs and hold Philadelphia to a minimal amount of damage at the plate. I expect more of the same here in game three on Sunday as I look for Texas to complete the sweep of Philadelphia to open up the year at home.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Texas Rangers (-125)
