San Diego Padres @ Philadelphia Phillies – 1:05PM ET

Tony Battalio

This will be the first game of a day night doubleheader and serve as the second game of a four-game series between the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies. San Diego put up a solid performance in the opening game of the series on Friday night, and they will be looking to grab another victory in the first game of the doubleheader here on Saturday as well. The Padres have flown under the radar and you can argue that they’ve been a bit disappointing with the amount of talent that they have on their roster as well. They will be hoping to use this weekend series to get things on track for the second half of the season.

The Philadelphia Phillies will be hoping to use this doubleheader to bounce back after their loss on Friday to open up the series. After making a run to the World Series last season, Philadelphia has been underwhelming throughout the first half of this season. Trea Turner started the year as a potential Most Valuable Player award candidate, but he has not done much after his incredible performance at the world baseball classic. Both back-to-back and Philadelphia will be hoping they can turn things around in the second half of the season and that starts with a solid performance in this series against the San Diego Padres. However, I still think San Diego grabs a victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

SD Padres (-135)

Minnesota Twins @ Oakland Athletics – 7:07PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Minnesota Twins had a less than impressive first half of the season and they currently find themselves in second place in the American League Central division. They will be hoping this weekend. The series against the Oakland Athletics will allow them to bounce back and regain the top spot in the division as they kick off the stretch run of the year. Pablo Lopez is expected to take the mound for the Minnesota Twins in the second game of the series on Saturday night. It is fair to say that the trade that brought him to Minnesota, has been one-sided in favor of the Marlins thus far. However, Lopez and the Twins will be looking to prove the doubters wrong here on Saturday night against the Athletics.

The Oakland Athletics have been one of the worst teams in baseball this season, and they look to be on pace to lose over 100 games. They have had trouble both on the field and off the field with their impending move to Las Vegas as well. They have become a punching bag for the rest of the league and some nights they just so happen to strike gold when they rattle off a few wins here and there. I don’t expect this game against the Minnesota Twins to be one of those nights as I think Pablo Lopez will give Minnesota a massive advantage in the pitching matchup, despite being on the road. That is why I look for the Minnesota Twins to grab a comfortable victory in the second game of this series on Saturday night.

Minnesota Twins

New York Yankees @ Colorado Rockies – 8:10PM ET

Tony Battalio

The New York Yankees limped into the All-Star break as they are riddled with injuries at the moment. The opening game of the series against Colorado was also shaky for them as they struggled against the Rockies throughout most of the game. Despite having a winning record, the Yankees find themselves in fourth place of the American League East division and sitting outside of the wild card race in the American League. They will be hoping to get some help from the Orioles and Blue Jays, as well as get things turned around for themselves as we approach the stretch run of the season.

As many people would’ve expected, the Colorado Rockies have been one of the worst teams in the league this season. They looked solid in their opening game of the series against the New York Yankees, and they will be looking to turn in another decent performance here on Saturday night as well. Colorado is currently sitting in last place in the National League West division and if things don’t change throughout the second half of the season, they will likely lose over 100 games this year. I don’t expect it to get much better for them in this one as I look for the Yankees to pick up the victory here on Saturday night at Coors Field.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

NY Yankees (-165)

Houston Astros @ Los Angeles Angels – 9:07PM ET

Tony Battalio

The defending World Series champions had a rough start to the season, but they turned things around by the time the All-Star break arrived. They will be looking to catch fire in the second half of the season as they attempt to defend the World Series title this year. They open up the second half of the season with a huge divisional series against the Los Angeles Angels and they currently find themselves in second place in the American League West division behind the Texas Rangers. Framber Valdez is expected to take the mound in this one for the Houston Astros and he has been their ace this season.

The Los Angeles Angels come into this game looking to grab a victory over their American League West divisional rivals. Despite all the talent on the Angels roster, they had a disappointing first half of the season and they will be playing catch-up in the second half of the year if they want to make the playoffs. They come into this game hovering around .500 and they will need to get hot down the stretch run if they want to get Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani into the postseason with Ohtani’s free agency looming. However, I think the Angels lose this one on Saturday night to the Astros with Valdez, having a solid performance.

Houston Astros (-135)

Detroit Tigers @ Seattle Mariners – 9:40PM ET

Tony Battalio

It has been a rough year so far for the Detroit Tigers and they will be hoping they can bounce back against the Seattle Mariners. They are well under .500 at the moment, but not too far out of contention with the weakness of the American League Central division. However, they will have their hands full with a solid Seattle Mariners team that has been underwhelming themselves, and they will also be hoping to get going in the second half of the season. Michael Lorenzen will be taking the mound for the Detroit Tigers in this game on Saturday night in Seattle and he will be looking to turn things around in the second half of the season as well.

The Seattle Mariners have been underwhelming throughout the first half of the 2023 season. After back to back seasons of winning 90+ games and making one playoff appearance they have regressed throughout the early part of this year. They come into this game, hovering around .500 and sitting in third place in the American League west division. They are also out of the wildcard race at the moment as well. However, they have a huge opportunity to gain some momentum this weekend against the Detroit Tigers. I expect them to grab the victory here on Saturday night at home against Detroit.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Seattle Mariners (-210)
