Atlanta Braves @ Washington Nationals – 4:05PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Atlanta Braves jumped all over the Washington Nationals on opening day. As they cruised their way to a victory to start the season off on a high note. I expect more of the same in the second game of this three game weekend series between these two National League East ball clubs. As I look for the Atlanta Braves to jump out to an early lead over the Washington Nationals for the second consecutive game here on Saturday afternoon. I also look for starting pitcher Spencer Strider to shut down the Washington nationals lineup. They didn’t give the Braves many problems on opening day either, so I don’t see why this game would be any different.

Let’s face it, although it might only be the second game of the season for the Washington Nationals, it is pretty clear that this team is not going anywhere this season. They are still in full on rebuild mode ever since winning the World Series in 2019 and it is going to be like this for the foreseeable future as well. I look for Atlanta to jump out on the Nationals in this one early and cruise to a comfortable victory on the road to clinch the series and set up the possibility of getting a three-game sweep on Sunday.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Atlanta Braves (-250)

San Francisco Giants @ New York Yankees – 4:05PM ET

Tony Battalio

It was a rough start for the San Francisco Giants on Thursday as they never could get their bats going and Aaron Judge homered off them early on in the game. Now they will be looking to bounce back in the second game of the season against the New York Yankees here on Saturday afternoon. Alex Cobb will get that start for the San Francisco Giants in this one and last season he posted a 7-8 record in 28 appearances. He logged 149 and two thirds innings pitched and struck out 151 batters while sporting an Earned Run Average of 3.73. He will be looking to open up his 2023 campaign on the right foot here on Saturday.

The New York Yankees picked up right where they left off at the end of last season and so did their superstar hitter Aaron Judge. It didn’t take Aaron Judge long to hit a home run as he did it in his first at bat of the season, ironically it came against the team that he was projected to go to over the off-season. The Yankees will now look to carry that momentum from their victory on Thursday over to this game on Saturday and clinch the series and set up the possibility for a sweep on Sunday afternoon. Clarke Schmidt will be taking the mound for the Yankees in this one and I think New York will get themselves. Another victory to open up the season.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

NY Yankees (-140)

New York Mets @ Miami Marlins – 4:10PM ET

Tony Battalio

The New York Mets will be looking to bounce back from their poor performance on Friday evening to take a two games to one series lead here on Saturday afternoon. After a solid showing on Thursday afternoon to open up the season, the New York Mets offense disappeared on Friday as they only managed to score 1 run in their loss to the Miami Marlins. Now they will be looking to bounce back here in Game number three of this for game weeknd series as they look to clinch at least a share of the series before heading into Sunday’s finale. Tyler Megill takes the mound for New York in this one.

The Miami Marlins looked very solid in their victory on Friday night and their pitching looked almost unhittable at times. As they held the New York Mets to only four hits in the entire game, and the only blemish on their record was a Pete Alonso homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning. Now they will be looking to clinch at least a share of the four game weekend series with another victory here on Saturday as they look to capitalize off of the momentum from their win on Friday to take two in a row from the New York Mets. I look for them to do just that as I have the Miami Marlins picking up the victory here on Saturday afternoon.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Miami Marlins (+100)

Minnesota Twins @ Kansas City Royals – 4:10PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Minnesota Twins opened up their season with a victory over their American League Central division rivals, the Kansas City Royals on Thursday afternoon. Now they will be looking to grab another victory over Kansas City and clinch the series heading into the finale on Sunday and potentially setting up the opportunity to sweep Kansas City as well. Pablo Lopez looked solid in his Minnesota Twins debut and the Twins pitching staff all the way from the rotation to their bullpen shut the Royals down completely. However, they only managed to score 2 runs, which is something that will need to be improved throughout the season.

Kansas City will be looking to bounce back after their loss to Minnesota open up the year and they will be hoping that their bats come with them this time around. As they were shut out on Thursday to open up the 2023 Major League Baseball season. One bright spot they could point towards the fact that they only gave up two runs to the Minnesota Twins. Most of the time only giving up a couple of runs per game could potentially win you the game, but the offense just didn’t have it to open up the year. I expect a similar result in this one however, as I have the Minnesota Twins picking up their second victory of the season over the Kansas City Royals.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Minnesota Twins (-165)

Cleveland Guardians @ Seattle Mariners – 9:40PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Cleveland Guardians offense finally woke up in the second game of their four game weekend series against the Seattle Mariners. They exploded for nine runs in route to a huge and much needed victory over Seattle as they now look to clinch a share of the series on Saturday. Despite a rocky start from starting pitcher Hunter Gaddis, the guardians recovered throughout the game, and added to their lead during the middle and late innings. Aaron Civale will make his season debut in this one for the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday evening.

The Seattle Mariners looked solid to open up the season on Thursday night, but they faltered on Friday evening as they gave up a pile of runs to the Cleveland Guardians. Now they will be looking to bounce back in game number three of this series and clinch at least a share of this series before heading into Sunday’s finale. Robbie Ray looked rough from the start as he gave up three early runs, but in his defense, some errors led to some free runs for the Guardians as well. As for the result of this one, I think the Cleveland Guardians win their second consecutive game over Seattle and clinch at least a share of the series and look to take the series on Sunday.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Cleveland Guardians (+115)
