Kansas City Royals @ Boston Red Sox – 7:10PM ET

It has been an awful year for the Kansas City Royals, but over the last week they have been picking up some surprising victories. They will be looking to continue that trend as they head to Fenway Park for the opening game of this series against the Boston Red Sox on Monday night. Kansas City comes into the opening game of this series at Fenway Park with a record of 36-77 through the first 113 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. However, they did sweep the Mets earlier last week and they are coming off of a solid performance against Philadelphia over the weekend. They have picked up seven victories in their last 10 games of the season and they will be looking to keep the momentum rolling here on Monday night. 

The Boston Red Sox may have run into the Kansas City Royals at the wrong time as they have been one of the hottest teams in baseball over their last 10 games of the season. Boston will be looking to grab a crucial victory in the opening game of the series at Fenway Park on Monday night against Kansas City as they look to climb their way back up the standings in the American League wildcard race and the American League East division. Boston is currently in last place of the division and they find themselves five games out of third wildcard spot in the American League as well. However, I look for them to help their case as I have them picking up the victory here on Monday. 

Chicago Cubs @ New York Mets – 7:10PM ET

The Chicago Cubs are having a less than impressive season, but they are coming off of a solid performance in a three-game weekend series against the Atlanta Braves. After losing the series opener on Friday night Chicago bounced back to take two in a row over the weekend and take two out of three games from the best team in baseball this season. Now they will be looking to carry that momentum over into the opening game of this series against a struggling New York Mets team that is coming off of a fire sale at the trade deadline. While Chicago is firmly in the playoff picture at this point in the season, they still have plenty of work to do if they want to remain consistent and pass up the Milwaukee Brewers for the top spot in the National League Central division.

As previously mentioned, the New York Mets aren’t having a solid run of play at the moment, and they are coming off of a weekend series, where they were defeated by the Baltimore Orioles. Prior to their series with the Orioles they were swept by the Kansas City Royals as things just continue to get worse for them ever since they traded away Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander at the deadline. Now they will be looking to bounce this game against the Chicago Cubs at home as they look to salvage the slim playoff hopes that they have left after a rough week. However, I don’t see that happening as I think Chicago picks up the victory in the opening game of the series on Monday night.

Colorado Rockies @ Milwaukee Brewers – 8:10PM ET

The Colorado Rockies are in the middle of a rough season as it looks as if their rebuild is only beginning at this point. They will be looking to play spoiler for the rest of the teams on their schedule as they head to American Family Field in Milwaukee to open up a series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night. Colorado has 67 losses through their first 111 games of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. If they don’t turn things around quickly, they are on pace to lose over 100 games and they will only sink further into last place of the National League West division that they are right now. They come into this game as losers in six out of their last 10 games on the season, and they will be looking to turn the tide in the opening game of the series.

The Milwaukee Brewers are in a heated playoff race for the top spot in the National League Central division as we come down the final stretch of the 2023 Major League Baseball regular season. Milwaukee has been neck and neck with Cincinnati throughout the last month of the season and they will be looking to use this series against one of the worst teams in the league to pad their stats in the winning column and give themselves a much-needed momentum boost as well. The Brewers have been struggling as of late and they will be looking to bounce back in the opening game of the series and I expect them to do just that by picking up a solid victory over Colorado.

San Francisco Giants @ Los Angeles Angels – 9:38PM ET

The San Francisco Giants come into the opening game of this series, looking to take advantage of a struggling Los Angeles Angels team as they try to statpad their win column. San Francisco is coming off of a quick to game series against their rivals the Oakland Athletics where they split with the Athletics. However, thanks to their win on Saturday they clinched the season series because they beat them and three out of the four games between the two teams this season. Now they will be looking to use that momentum from Saturday’s victory and bounce back from Sunday’s loss by grabbing a victory over a struggling Los Angeles Angels team.

The Los Angeles Angels have been a complete disaster for the last few seasons, despite the massive amount of talent that inhabits the roster. They arguably have two of the best players in all of Major League Baseball, and yet they have still underperformed time and time again. However, they are starting to run out of time as Shohei Ohtani will become a free agent at the end of the regular season, and Mike Trout’s prime is slowly fading off into the limelight as yet another year comes to an end, and it looks more and more likely they will not be participating in the playoffs this season. Luckily for Los Angeles I do expect them to bounce back and grab a victory over San Francisco here on Monday night at home as they try to get themselves back in the American League wildcard race.

Texas Rangers @ Oakland Athletics – 9:40PM ET

The Texas Rangers come into this game after finishing off a solid series against the Miami Marlins, and they will be looking to carry that momentum into this series against the Oakland Athletics. Texas has been solid this year and they’ve done it all with a combination of timely, hitting and dependable starting pitching and at the moment it has them positioned as the top team in the American League West division. As they hold a slight edge over the defending World Series champions, the Houston Astros. They will be looking to statpad their win column in this series against Oakland, as they look to maintain their lead within the division.

It has been an absolutely awful year for the Oakland Athletics, and they are on pace to become the worst single-season team in the history of Major League Baseball. It would take a tremendous turn around for them to avoid losing over 100 games by the time the regular season comes to an end and they would have to get on one of the most unprecedented, hot streaks that hasn’t been seen by this team since the days of “Moneyball”, but, I think it’s pretty obvious with the way they have played this season that is not going to happen. I don’t expect them to be very competitive in the opening game of the series against the Texas Rangers either as I look for Texas to grab a comfortable victory here on Monday night at Oakland Coliseum.
