San Francisco Giants @ Pittsburgh Pirates – 7:05PM ET

Tony Battalio

The San Francisco Giants had a decent first half of the 2023 Major League Baseball season. They will be looking to kick off the second half of the season with a victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the opening game of this three-game weekend series. San Francisco is coming off of the break on a two-game winning streak as they currently find themselves in the middle of the pack in the National League West division in third place behind the Dodgers and Diamondbacks. They have picked up 49 victories in their first 90 games of the season and they will be going for their third consecutive victory in this game against Pittsburgh on Friday night.

The Pittsburgh Pirates shocked the baseball world when they started the season by winning 22 out of their first 30 games of the year. However, since then, reality has kicked in and they’ve fallen well below .500 coming into the second half of the season. Pittsburgh is coming into this game on a one-game winning streak, but they have lost seven out of their last 10 games on the season. Since they started the season with 22 victories and eight losses, they have gone an abysmal 19-41 through their last 60 games of the year. I don’t expect it to get much better for Pittsburgh here in game one of the series either as I have San Francisco grabbing the victory on Friday night on the road at PNC Park.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

SF Giants (-130)

Miami Marlins @ Baltimore Orioles – 7:05PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Miami Marlins have been a pleasant surprise throughout the first half of the 2023 season. They will be looking to keep the momentum rolling as they open up the second half of the season against one of the best teams in the American League. As they will travel to Camden Yards for a three-game series with a Baltimore Orioles starting on Friday night. Miami comes into this game with 53 victories through their first 92 games of the season and they are currently in second place of the National League East division and occupying one of the top three wild card spots in the National League as well. Sandy Alcantara will be on the mound from Miami here on Friday night, which gives them a slight advantage in the pitching matchup, despite his less-than-impressive record this season.

The Baltimore Orioles came on strong last season and this season it seems as if they are making their breakthrough. They are positioned to make a playoff appearance this season as they currently find themselves with the second-best record in the American League behind only the Tampa Bay Rays, which is why they are currently in second place in the American League East division. They ended the first half of the season on a roll as they are currently on a five-game winning streak coming into the opening game of the series on Friday night at home. Dean Kremer is expected to be on the mound for Baltimore in this game and I think they will pick up the victory over Miami to extend their winning streak to six games.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

Baltimore Orioles (-125)

Arizona Diamondbacks @ Toronto Blue Jays – 7:07PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Arizona Diamondbacks are the surprise story of baseball during the 2023 Major League Baseball season. Not only have they exceeded their expectations, but they also find themselves leading the National League West division ahead of teams like Los Angeles and San Diego coming into the second half of the season. They have done it with a mix of solid pitching from Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly and a consistent lineup with guys like Corbin Carroll, who if not for Elly De La Cruz, would be the National League rookie of the year. Arizona currently has 52 victories in their first 91 games of the year, and they will be looking to open up this series on the road in Canada with a victory as well.

The Toronto Blue Jays have been a bit underwhelming but in their defense, it is hard to compete with a team like Tampa Bay, who has been unbeatable at times this season. They currently have 50 victories through their first 91 games of the season, and they sit in third place in the toughest division in baseball while occupying one of the wildcard spots in the American League. They have picked up six victories in their last 10 games of the year and they will be looking to grab a victory in the opening game of the series on Friday night at home against the Arizona Diamondbacks. That is exactly what I expect as I look for Toronto to grab the series-opening victory here on Friday.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ New York Mets – 7:10PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a solid first half of the season, but if you took a glance at the standings you would be shocked to find out they are not leading the National League West division at the moment. They have picked up 51 victories through the first 89 games of the 2023 season and they will be looking to grab a victory in the opening game of this series against the New York Mets. Julio Urias will take the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the opening game of the series. He has been less than impressive this season, but also good enough to get the job done at times with his six victories on the year. Los Angeles comes into this game on a four-game winning streak, with a ton of momentum coming out of the break.

The New York Mets have been disappointing this season and they will be hoping they can use the second half of the season to turn things around. They have one of the highest payrolls in baseball and as of right now, they will likely miss the playoffs. They come into this game six games below .500 with 42 victories in their first 90 games of the season. Justin Verlander will take the hill for the New York Mets in the opening game of the series on Friday night at home, and he will be looking to take down one of the hottest offenses in baseball at the moment. Frankly, I just don’t see that happening and I think the Los Angeles Dodgers will grab a comfortable victory in the opening game of the series on Friday night at Citi Field.

SportsTips’ MLB Pick:

LA Dodgers (-125)

Boston Red Sox @ Chicago Cubs – 8:05PM ET

Tony Battalio

The Boston Red Sox have been flying under the radar because of the strength of the American League East division. They come into this game over .500 but currently sitting in last place in their division which is almost unheard of for a team with a winning record. Boston is hot coming out of the break as they are currently on a five-game winning streak, and they have picked up eight victories in their last 10 games of the season. They will be looking to open up the series against the Chicago Cubs with a victory at Wrigley Field on Friday night as well to try and drag themselves back into the American League wild-card race. They come into this game with 48 victories through their first 91 games of the season but as of right now, they will need some help to make the playoffs.

The Chicago Cubs come into this game five games below the .500 mark with 42 victories through their first 89 games of the season. Luckily for them, they play in the second-worst division in all of baseball which just so happens to be the counterpart of the worst division in baseball. As the National League Central has been less than impressive just like their American League counterparts. The Cubs currently find themselves seven games out of first place behind the surprising Cincinnati Reds coming into the second half of the season. They have picked up five victories in their last 10 games on the year and they are on a one-game winning streak coming into this one as well. However, I expect Boston to grab the winning series opener.

Boston Red Sox (-120)
