The No. 8 Xavier Musketeers (15-3, 7-0 Big East), one of the NCAA’s top scoring teams, host the Georgetown Hoyas (5-14, 0-8 Big East) on Saturday. Georgetown was defeated by the Villanova Wildcats 77-73 at Finneran Pavilion on Monday, their ninth consecutive loss.
With 19 points, Primo Spears was the scoring leader in the loss. Jordan Riley added 18 points and six rebounds. The Hoyas are 11th in the Big East Conference. Xavier won their 11th in a row on Sunday at Cintas Center, beating the Marquette Golden Eagles 80-76. Jack Nunge had 16 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks, leading the team.
The Musketeers remain first in the Big East Conference. This marks the final meeting of the season between the teams. Xavier will be pursuing a season sweep against Georgetown after taking the only previous matchup 102-89 at Capital One Arena in December 2022.
Souley Boum led the Musketeers with 28 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Spears had 22 points in the losing effort. Spears is averaging 15.5 points per game to lead the Hoyas in scoring this season. Spears also has dished 5.2 assists per game. Meanwhile, Qudus Wahab is grabbing 7.5 rebounds.
Boum (17.6 ppg) has been the primary provider for the Musketeers on offense. Zach Freemantle is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game, and Colby Jones is tallying 5.2 assists.
The Musketeers are averaging 84.2 points per game, ranking as one of the most explosive offenses in the nation (10th). Georgetown is 1-9 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -12.9 (68.2-81.1).
Xavier has won each of the last 10 as part of the team’s 11-game win streak, scoring 84.3 points per game on average while allowing 76.4 (+7.9 margin).
