The No. 4 Texas Longhorns (4-0), one of the NCAA’s top shooting teams, host the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros (4-2) on Saturday.UT Rio Grande Valley beat the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 91-79 at Bert Ogden Arena on Tuesday. Justin Johnson was the leading scorer with 26 points.
Will Johnston chipped in with 20 points. Texas won their fourth in a row in impressive fashion on Monday at Bert Ogden Arena, beating the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 73-48. Marcus Carr had 17 points to lead the team.
It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. Texas got the win in the only game between the teams last season 88-58 at Frank Erwin Special Events Center in December 2021, their third straight head-to-head victory. Christian Bishop led the Longhorns with 17 points.
RayQuan Taylor had 15 points and nine rebounds in defeat.The Vaqueros have been led this season by Johnson, who is averaging 19.2 points per game. Meanwhile, Daylen Williams is grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game, and Johnston is dishing 4.2 assists.
Tyrese Hunter and Carr have been the primary providers of the Longhorns’ offense, averaging 16.0 and 14.0 points per game, respectively. Carr also has tallied 4.5 assists per game. Dillon Mitchell has posted 7.5 rebounds per game. Shooting 50.6% from the field, the Vaqueros are one of the country’s most accurate field goal shooting teams (30th).
