The UAPB Golden Lions (3-7) will try to overcome one of the nation’s top scoring defenses when they head to face the No. 2 Texas Longhorns (6-1) on Saturday. UAPB dismantled the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes 59-41 at H.O. Clemmons Arena on Saturday. Chris Greene led the way with 25 points.
Texas came up short on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden, falling to the Illinois Fighting Illini 85-78. Timmy Allen had 21 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds in the losing effort, carrying the team. This marks the only meeting of the season between the teams.
Texas won the only matchup between the teams last season 63-31 at Frank Erwin Special Events Center in December 2021. Tre Mitchell led the Longhorns with 14 points. Kylen Milton had 8 points in the loss. Shaun Doss Jr. is averaging 17.9 points per game to lead the Golden Lions in scoring this season.
Meanwhile, Ismael Plet is grabbing 6.8 rebounds per game, and Milton is dishing 4.2 assists. Tyrese Hunter (15.1 ppg) and Marcus Carr (14.6) have supplied much of the Longhorns’ offense. Carr also has distributed 4.1 assists per game. Allen has averaged 6.7 rebounds per game.
The Longhorns rank as one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the nation, 26th-best with 59.4 points per game allowed. UAPB is 3-7 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -6.5 (63.0-69.5).
