The No. 16 Auburn Tigers (15-3, 5-1 SEC), one of the NCAA’s top scoring defenses, are on the road to face the South Carolina Gamecocks (8-10, 1-4 SEC) on Saturday. Auburn outplayed the LSU Tigers 67-49 at Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Wednesday, their fourth win in a row.
Wendell Green Jr. had a standout performance with 14 points. The Tigers remain third in the Southeastern Conference. South Carolina lost their third in a row at home on Tuesday at Colonial Life Arena, falling to the Ole Miss Rebels 70-58.
Gregory Jackson led the team in scoring in the losing effort with 15 points. The Gamecocks remain 10th in the Southeastern Conference. It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams.
Auburn won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was an 82-71 triumph at Neville Arena in March 2022, their fifth straight head-to-head victory.
Jabari Smith led the Tigers with 21 points. Jermaine Couisnard had 22 points in defeat.Green Jr. and Johni Broome, averaging 13.6 and 11.6 points per game, respectively, have led the Tigers in scoring this season.
Broome also has grabbed 8.0 rebounds per game, while Green Jr. has dished 3.8 assists per game. Jackson (15.1 ppg) has supplied much of the Gamecocks’ offense. Jackson also has collected 6.6 rebounds per game.
Meechie Johnson Jr. has recorded 3.1 assists per game.Holding opponents to 62.4 points per game, the Tigers are one of the toughest scoring defenses in the country (28th).
In the last 10 games, Auburn is 7-3 with an average margin of +5.6 (71.5-65.9). For the season, the Tigers are averaging 72.2 points per game, compared to 62.4 for opponents.
