The No. 24 Providence Friars (19-7, 11-4 Big East) welcome the Villanova Wildcats (13-13, 7-8 Big East), who will be looking to extend their winning run, on Saturday.
Villanova beat the Butler Bulldogs 62-50 at Finneran Pavilion on Tuesday, their third straight win. With 15 points, Justin Moore was the scoring leader.
Eric Dixon added 9 points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats are seventh in the Big East Conference. Providence won their 11th straight home game on Tuesday at Amica Mutual Pavilion, beating the Creighton Bluejays 94-86 in double overtime.
Devin Carter had 25 points and eight rebounds to lead the team. The Friars are third in the Big East Conference. This is the final meeting of the season between the teams. Providence will be looking for a season sweep against Villanova after winning the only prior game 70-65 at Wells Fargo Center on January 29.
Jared Bynum led the Friars with 19 points. Cam Whitmore had 21 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort. Caleb Daniels and Dixon, averaging 16.0 and 15.6 points per game, respectively, have led the Wildcats in scoring this season.
Dixon also has grabbed 6.6 rebounds per game, while Daniels has dished 2.6 assists per game. Bryce Hopkins (16.8 ppg) has supplied much of the Friars’ offense. Hopkins also has pulled down 9.2 rebounds per game. Bynum has recorded 3.9 assists per game.
Villanova is 5-5 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +0.7 (66.1-65.4). Providence has gone 6-4 over the last 10, scoring 76.8 points per game on average while allowing 72.9 (+3.9 margin).
