The No. 20 Providence Friars (21-8, 13-5 Big East), one of the country’s top scoring teams, play host to the Seton Hall Pirates (16-14, 9-10 Big East) on Saturday. Seton Hall was beaten by the Villanova Wildcats 76-72 at Prudential Center on Tuesday, their third consecutive loss.
Al-Amir Dawes was the standout player in the loss with 21 points. The Pirates are seventh in the Big East Conference. Providence won in impressive fashion on Sunday at Capital One Arena, beating the Georgetown Hoyas 88-68.
Ed Croswell had 25 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks, carrying the team. The Friars are second in the Big East Conference. It’s the final meeting of the season between the teams. Providence will be looking for a season sweep against Seton Hall after coming out on top in the only previous matchup 71-67 at Prudential Center in December 2022.
Bryce Hopkins led the Friars with 24 points, while Croswell played a key role with 21 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. Kadary Richmond had 28 points and nine rebounds in defeat.
Dawes and Tyrese Samuel, averaging 12.7 and 10.9 points per game, respectively, are leading the Pirates in scoring this season. Samuel also has grabbed 5.7 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Richmond is dishing 3.7 assists per game. Hopkins (16.4 ppg) has supplied much of the Friars’ offense. Hopkins also has pulled down 8.8 rebounds per game. Jared Bynum has recorded 3.9 assists per game. The Friars are one of the highest-scoring offenses in the nation, ranking 30th with 78.8 points per game.
The Friars have found success in recent meetings between the teams at Amica Mutual Pavilion, winning six of the last 10.Seton Hall is 4-6 in the last 10 games with an average margin of -2.7 (65.5-68.2). Providence has a 7-3 record over the last 10, scoring 78.5 points per game on average while holding opponents to 72.0 (+6.5 margin).
