No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers (10-2) head to face the Ole Miss Rebels (8-4) on Wednesday to start their Southeastern Conference schedules. Tennessee dismantled the Austin Peay Governors 86-44 at Thompson-Boling Arena on Wednesday. Olivier Nkamhoua was the scoring leader with 20 points. Santiago Vescovi chipped in with 18 points.
Ole Miss lost a close one on December 20 at The Pavilion at Ole Miss, falling to the North Alabama Lions 66-65. Matthew Murrell scored 16 to top the scoresheet in the loss. With 11 points and 13 rebounds, Myles Burns also impressed. It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams.
Tennessee got the win in the only game between the teams last season 66-60 at Thompson-Boling Arena on January 5. Vescovi led the Volunteers with 17 points and six rebounds. Tye Fagan had 23 points in defeat. The Volunteers have been led this season by Nkamhoua (11.8 ppg), Tyreke Key (10.7), and Julian Phillips (10.6). Phillips also has grabbed 5.6 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Zakai Zeigler is dishing 3.3 assists per game. Murrell (15.6 ppg) has supplied much of the Rebels’ offense. Murrell also has doled out 2.5 assists per game. Burns has collected 6.8 rebounds per game.
The Volunteers are holding opponents to 52.8 points per game, ranking as one of the stingiest scoring defenses in the nation (5th). In the last 10 games, Tennessee is 9-1 with an average margin of +24.3 (75.5-51.2).
