The No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes (6-2) get their Big Ten Conference schedule underway at home against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-2, 1-0 Big 10) on Thursday. Rutgers defeated the Indiana Hoosiers 63-48 at Jersey Mike’s Arena on Saturday. Caleb McConnell had a standout performance with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Ohio State won their fifth in a row at home in impressive fashion on Saturday at Value City Arena, beating the Saint Francis U Red Flash 96-59. Brice Sensabaugh led the team in scoring with 15 points. With 10 points and 12 rebounds, Felix Okpara also produced a strong performance.
This is the only meeting of the season between the teams. Rutgers triumphed in the only matchup between the teams last season 66-64 at Jersey Mike’s Arena on February 9. Geo Baker led the Scarlet Knights with 25 points and six assists. Malaki Branham had 19 points in defeat.
The Scarlet Knights have been led this season by Clifford Omoruyi and Cam Spencer, who are averaging 15.4 and 13.8 points per game, respectively. Omoruyi also has grabbed 9.8 rebounds per game, while Spencer has dished 3.6 assists per game.
Sensabaugh (14.3 ppg), Zed Key (13.4), and Justice Sueing (13.1) have powered the Buckeyes’ offense. Key also has collected 8.0 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Isaac Likekele has doled out 3.1 assists per game. The Buckeyes rank fourth in the nation in offensive efficiency, while the Scarlet Knights are sixth in defensive efficiency.
