The No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers (13-1, 2-1 Big 10) travel to face the No. 24 Ohio State Buckeyes (10-3, 2-0 Big 10) Thursday in a game that could see a lot of points.Purdue was edged out by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 65-64 at Mackey Arena on Monday.
Zach Edey had a standout performance in defeat with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists. The Boilermakers remain fourth in the Big Ten Conference.
Ohio State won their third in a row on Sunday at Welsh-Ryan Arena, beating the Northwestern Wildcats 73-57. Brice Sensabaugh topped the scoresheet with 18 points. With 15 points, Sean McNeil also played a part.
The Buckeyes remain first in the Big Ten Conference. It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. Purdue triumphed in the only game between the teams last season 81-78 at Mackey Arena in January 2022.
Jaden Ivey led the Boilermakers with 21 points, while Edey was a key contributor with 20 points. Malaki Branham had 20 points and seven rebounds in the losing effort.Edey is averaging 20.1 points per game to lead the Boilermakers in scoring this season.
Edey also has grabbed 12.4 rebounds per game, most in the country. Meanwhile, Braden Smith is dishing 3.6 assists. Sensabaugh (15.9 ppg) and Justice Sueing (13.5) have been the primary providers for the Buckeyes on offense.
Zed Key is averaging 8.4 rebounds per game, and Bruce Thornton is tallying 3.5 assists.The Buckeyes and the Boilermakers rank as two of the most productive offenses in the country, second and fourth in offensive efficiency, respectively.
