The No. 6 Virginia Cavaliers (8-1, 1-0 ACC), one of the nation’s top scoring defenses, head to face the No. 22 Miami (FL) Hurricanes (11-1, 2-0 ACC) on Tuesday. Virginia was defeated by the Houston Cougars 69-61 at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday.
Kadin Shedrick had a standout performance in the losing effort with 16 points. Miami (FL) won their seventh in a row on Saturday at Watsco Center, beating the Saint Francis U Red Flash 91-76. Isaiah Wong had 22 points, 10 assists, and three blocks to lead the team.The teams are meeting for the only time this season.
Virginia won both games between the teams last season, the last of which was a 74-71 triumph at Watsco Center on February 19, their sixth straight head-to-head victory. Jayden Gardner led the Cavaliers with 23 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Kameron McGusty had 20 points in the losing effort.
The Cavaliers have been led this season by Gardner (11.8 ppg), Kihei Clark (11.3), and Armaan Franklin (10.9). Gardner also has grabbed 6.3 rebounds per game, while Clark has dished 5.3 assists per game. Wong and Jordan Miller have supplied much of the Hurricanes’ offense, averaging 16.7 and 15.1 points per game, respectively.
Wong also has distributed 4.4 assists per game. Norchad Omier has posted 9.8 rebounds per game.The Cavaliers rank as one of the top scoring defenses in the nation, 15th-best with 59.1 points per game allowed.Miami (FL) has gone 9-1 over the last 10, scoring 80.2 points per game on average while allowing 70.1 (+10.1 margin).
