The Creighton Bluejays (9-6, 3-1 Big East) will try to slow down one of the country’s top scoring teams when they head to face the No. 4 UConn Huskies (14-1, 3-1 Big East) on Saturday. Creighton outplayed the Seton Hall Pirates 83-61 at CHI Health Center Omaha on Tuesday, their third consecutive win.
With 17 points and six blocks, Ryan Kalkbrenner led the way. The Bluejays remain fourth in the Big East Conference. UConn fell short on Saturday at Cintas Center, falling to the Xavier Musketeers 83-73. Adama Sanogo scored 18 points to top the scoresheet in the losing effort.
With 14 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, Andre Jackson Jr. also impressed. The Huskies slipped to fifth in the Big East Conference. This is the only meeting of the season between the teams.
Creighton won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was a 64-62 triumph at CHI Health Center Omaha in March 2022, their fifth straight head-to-head victory.
Kalkbrenner led the Bluejays with 22 points and 10 rebounds. R.J. Cole had 20 points in the losing effort. Trey Alexander (12.7 ppg), Arthur Kaluma (12.7), and Baylor Scheierman (12.4) have led the Bluejays in scoring this season.
Scheierman also has grabbed 9.2 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Ryan Nembhard is dishing 5.8 assists per game. Sanogo has supplied much of the Huskies’ offense, averaging 17.8 points per game. Sanogo also has pulled down 6.7 rebounds per game.
Tristen Newton has distributed 4.6 assists per game. The Huskies are one of the most explosive offenses in the NCAA, ranking 21st with 82.3 points per game. In the last 10 games, Creighton is 4-6 with an average margin of +2.9 (73.9-71.0).
For the season, the Bluejays are averaging 77.1 points per game, compared to 67.5 for opponents. UConn has a 9-1 record over the last 10, scoring 79.8 points per game on average while holding opponents to 62.6 (+17.2 margin).
