The No. 8 Gonzaga Bulldogs (15-3, 4-0 WCC), one of the nation’s top scoring teams, play host to the Portland Pilots (9-10, 1-3 WCC) on Saturday. Portland defeated the San Francisco Dons 92-87 at Earle A. Chiles Center on Thursday.
Tyler Robertson was the top scorer with 23 points. Kristian Sjolund chipped in with 21 points and 12 rebounds. The Pilots remain eighth in the West Coast Conference.
Gonzaga won their 10th in a row in a close one on Thursday at Marriott Center, beating the BYU Cougars 75-74. Drew Timme topped the scoresheet with 19 points. With 18 points and eight rebounds, Anton Watson also had a strong game. The Bulldogs are first in the West Coast Conference.
This is the only meeting of the season between the teams. Gonzaga got the win in the only game between the teams last season 104-72 at McCarthey Athletic Center in January 2022, their 14th straight head-to-head victory. Andrew Nembhard led the Bulldogs with 22 points. Mike Meadows had 19 points in the losing effort.
The Pilots have been led this season by Robertson (14.6 ppg), Moses Wood (13.6), and Sjolund (13.1). Wood also has grabbed 6.1 rebounds per game, while Robertson has dished 5.4 assists per game. Timme’s 21.7 points per game have powered the Bulldogs on offense. He has the ninth-highest scoring average in the country.
Timme also has collected 8.2 rebounds per game. Nolan Hickman has distributed 3.7 assists per game. The Bulldogs are averaging 85.3 points per game, ranking as one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country (5th).
In the last 10 games, Portland is 4-6 with an average margin of -2.7 (73.8-76.5). Gonzaga has won each of the last 10, scoring 88.7 points per game on average while allowing 71.3 (+17.4 margin).
