The Chicago State Cougars (11-18, 2-0 Ind) will try to slow down the NCAA’s top scoring team when they head to face the No. 10 Gonzaga Bulldogs (25-5, 14-2 WCC) on Wednesday.
Chicago State dominated the Hartford Hawks 75-53 at Jones Convocation Center on February 19, their third win in a row. With 23 points and seven rebounds, Jahsean Corbett was the key player. The Cougars are first in the Independents Conference.
Gonzaga won their sixth in a row on Saturday at McCarthey Athletic Center, beating the Saint Mary’s Gaels 77-68. Drew Timme led the team in scoring with 19 points. With 17 points and eight rebounds, Anton Watson also played a part.
The Bulldogs remain first in the West Coast Conference. Wesley Cardet Jr. is averaging 16.8 points per game to lead the Cougars in scoring this season. Meanwhile, Corbett is grabbing 8.9 rebounds per game, and Elijah Weaver is dishing 3.4 assists.
Timme has supplied much of the Bulldogs’ offense, averaging 21.2 points per game. Timme also has averaged 7.5 rebounds per game. Nolan Hickman has recorded 3.3 assists per game. The Bulldogs are the top scoring offense in the country with 87.4 points per game.
Chicago State is 7-3 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +13.0 (78.9-65.9). For the season, the Cougars are averaging 70.4 points per game, compared to 70.8 for opponents. Gonzaga has gone 9-1 over the last 10, scoring 90.5 points per game on average while allowing 76.0 (+14.5 margin).
