The No. 13 Virginia Cavaliers (12-3, 4-2 ACC), one of the country’s top scoring defenses, travel to face the Florida State Seminoles (5-12, 3-3 ACC) on Saturday. Virginia defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels 65-58 at John Paul Jones Arena on Tuesday. Ben Vander Plas was the standout player with 17 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks.
The Cavaliers fell to seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State came up short on Wednesday at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, falling to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 90-75. Matthew Cleveland had 19 points and 12 rebounds in the losing effort, leading the team.
The Seminoles are eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. This marks the last meeting of the season between the teams. After winning the only prior season game against Florida State 62-57 at John Paul Jones Arena in December 2022, Virginia will be seeking a season sweep. Kihei Clark led the Cavaliers with 18 points.
Darin Green Jr. had 17 points in defeat. The Cavaliers have been led this season by Armaan Franklin (11.4 ppg), Clark (11.1), and Jayden Gardner (10.7). Gardner also has grabbed 5.0 rebounds per game, while Clark has dished 6.0 assists per game, 10th-most in the country.
Cleveland (14.7 ppg), Green Jr. (14.0), and Caleb Mills (13.3) have powered the Seminoles on offense. Cleveland also has averaged 7.5 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Jalen Warley has distributed 3.9 assists per game. The Cavaliers are one of the best scoring defenses in the NCAA, ranking 16th with 59.5 points per game allowed.
