The No. 17 Duke Blue Devils (10-3, 1-1 ACC), one of the country’s top scoring defenses, play host to the Florida State Seminoles (4-10, 2-1 ACC) on Saturday. Florida State narrowly defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 73-72 at Donald L. Tucker Center on December 21. With 19 points and 12 rebounds, Matthew Cleveland was the key player.
The Seminoles are fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Duke lost on December 20 at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, falling to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 81-70. Jaylen Blakes had 17 points in the losing effort, carrying the team. The Blue Devils dropped to 11th in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
It’s the only meeting of the season between the teams. Florida State and Duke split their matchups last season, taking one game apiece. The Blue Devils got the win in the last meeting 88-70 at Cameron Indoor Stadium on February 19. Paolo Banchero led the Blue Devils with 17 points, while Wendell Moore Jr. contributed 16 points, seven assists, and six steals.
Cleveland had 16 points in the loss. The Seminoles have been led this season by Darin Green Jr. (13.7 ppg), Cleveland (13.7), and Caleb Mills (12.6). Cleveland also has grabbed 6.7 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Jalen Warley is dishing 3.6 assists per game.
Kyle Filipowski and Jeremy Roach have supplied much of the Blue Devils’ offense, averaging 14.4 and 12.8 points per game, respectively. Filipowski also has collected 8.9 rebounds per game, while Roach has tallied 3.4 assists per game.
The Blue Devils are holding opponents to 60.4 points per game, ranking as one of the toughest scoring defenses in the country (22nd).
