The Hofstra Pride (13-8, 6-2 CAA) will try to slow down one of the country’s top scoring teams when they travel to face the No. 18 Charleston Cougars (21-1, 9-0 CAA) on Saturday.
Hofstra dominated the UNCW Seahawks 70-46 at Mack Sports Complex on January 19. Tyler Thomas led the way with 28 points and seven rebounds.
The Pride fell to fourth in the Colonial Athletic Conference. Charleston won their 20th in a row in impressive fashion on Saturday at Matthews Arena, beating the Northeastern Huskies 87-61. Ben Burnham recorded 15 points to lead the team in scoring.
With 12 points, Ryan Larson also played a part. The Cougars remain first in the Colonial Athletic Conference. This marks the only meeting of the season between the teams.
They last met in the Colonial Conference Tourney quarterfinals when the Cougars knocked out the Pride with a 92-76 victory at Entertainment & Sports Arena in March 2022.
Hofstra won both regular season matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was a 76-92 triumph at Entertainment & Sports Arena in March 2022.
John Meeks led the Cougars with 31 points and seven rebounds. Jalen Ray had 21 points in defeat.The Pride have been led this season by Aaron Estrada, who is averaging 19.0 points per game.
Meanwhile, Darlinstone Dubar is grabbing 5.1 rebounds per game, and Jaquan Carlos is dishing 4.2 assists. Dalton Bolon has been the primary provider of the Cougars’ offense, averaging 13.3 points per game.
Ante Brzovic is collecting 5.2 rebounds per game, and Larson is tallying 4.2 assists.With 80.0 points per game, the Cougars are one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country (28th).
Hofstra is 7-3 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +12.9 (75.4-62.5). For the season, the Pride are averaging 72.8 points per game, compared to 68.4 for opponents.
