Thu 19th January 2023

The USC Trojans (13-5, 5-2 Pac-12) will try to slow down one of the nation’s top scoring teams when they travel to face the No. 11 Arizona Wildcats (15-3, 4-3 Pac-12) on Thursday. USC beat the Utah Runnin’ Utes 71-56 at Galen Center on Saturday.

Boogie Ellis led the way with 17 points. The Trojans remain third in the Pac-12 Conference. Arizona lost in blowout fashion on Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena, falling to the Oregon Ducks 87-68. Kylan Boswell led the team in scoring in the losing effort with 15 points.

With 10 points and three blocks, Oumar Ballo also produced a strong performance. The Wildcats are sixth in the Pac-12 Conference. The teams are meeting for the only time this season.

Arizona won both matchups between the teams last season, the last of which was a 91-71 triumph at Galen Center in March 2022, their third straight head-to-head victory.

Bennedict Mathurin led the Wildcats with 19 points and six assists. Max Agbonkpolo had 14 points in the losing effort. Ellis and Drew Peterson, averaging 15.7 and 13.6 points per game, respectively, are leading the Trojans in scoring this season. Peterson also is contributing 6.5 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

Azuolas Tubelis (20.4 ppg) has been the primary provider of the Wildcats’ offense. Ballo is averaging 9.1 rebounds per game, and Kerr Kriisa is recording 5.9 assists.

The Wildcats are one of the top scoring offenses in the country, ranking seventh with 84.8 points per game. The Trojans have had little success at McKale Memorial Center in recent seasons, losing eight of the last 10 games.

USC is 8-2 in the last 10 games with an average margin of +6.0 (71.0-65.0). Arizona has also an 8-2 record over the last 10, scoring 79.5 points per game on average while allowing 70.0 (+9.5 margin). The Wildcats are averaging 84.8 ppg for the full season while allowing 73.4.
