Denver Nuggets @ Orlando Magic – 7PM ET

After beating the Nets on Friday night, things were looking positive for the Orlando Magic however a disappointing showing in Boston two nights ago brought them crashing back down to earth. However, they have another opportunity to beat a very good side when they host the Denver Nuggets tonight.

After winning three straight games, Denver ended their five game home stand with a disappointing showing against the Pelicans, losing 108-113. After leading by as many as nine in the first quarter, Denver had a terrible 21-36 second quarter and could never catch up again. Nikola Jokic had another triple double, finishing with a team high 29 points, yet it wasn’t enough to get his team over the line.

Orlando suffered defeat on Sunday too but theirs was far worse, losing in Boston 96-112. Nikola Vucevic once again led the way for the Magic, putting up 22 and 13 but the team couldn’t overcome Evan Fournier and Aaron Gordon combining to shoot 9/32 from the field.

The Magic shot just 38.1% from the field and 32.4% from deep in the loss, something they won’t be able to do against a Denver side that averages the fourth most points per game. The Nuggets actually hold the sixth best NET rating in the league and are an impressive 13-8 on the road.

Washington Wizards @ New York Knicks – 7:30PM ET

The New York Knicks and Washington Wizards prepare to go head to head in a two game series this week, starting tonight. Both teams come in just 1-3 from their last four and will be wanting to recapture some winning form here.

New York’s three losses were to Brooklyn once and Philly twice, by a combined nine points overall, while they beat the Magic by one point five nights ago. Their most recent showing was a one point overtime loss to the Sixers, struggling to hit shots and get stops down the stretch. The Knicks shot just 13/23 from the line in the loss, wasting opportunities to seal the deal despite 24 points, seven rebounds and five steals from Julius Randle as well as 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals off the bench from Alec Burks.

Washington on the other hand have lost to Milwaukee, Sacramento and Brooklyn most recently, but a win over Utah in the middle of all of that was extremely impressive and showed that this team has promise. Their loss to Brooklyn saw Bradley beal shoot just 6/15 from the field for only 17 points while Russell Westbrook had a massive night with 29 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists.

The Wizards played exceptionally well, especially on defense, but a massive 19 turnovers never gave them a chance of winning. They now come up against the best scoring defense in the league, on their home floor and will need to be better at making the most of their opportunities. New York will have other ideas and given how much better they play at home, 12-8 record, we like the Knicks to pick up the win here.

Los Angeles Lakers @ New Orleans Pelicans – 7:30PM ET

The New Orleans Pelicans return home from an interesting three game road trip, going just 1-2 however playing some very good basketball and finishing with a win in Denver. They now host a Los Angeles Lakers side that seriously struggled in their first game with both Anthony Davis and LeBron James in the injury ward and may find it hard to compete again in this one.

Despite 22 points from Dennis Schroder as well as 23 points and 10 rebounds off the bench from Montrezl Harrell, the Lakers just couldn’t find enough offense to keep up in Phoenix on Sunday. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Markeiff Morris and Wesley Matthews, all starters, combined for just nine points on 3/18 shooting as the team shot just 5/25 from deep for the game.

The 94 points they scored is tied for their second lowest total over the last seven weeks and they won’t be able to keep up against a New Orleans side that scores the fifth most points per game and is five points better offensively at home. The Pelicans’ last home game saw them defeat the Clippers 135-115 in a very impressive showing.

Their most recent game was another win, 113-108 in Denver where they managed to slow down one of the best offensive teams whilst flourishing themselves. Both Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson had 30 point, six rebound nights, with the former adding eight assists and two steals as well. Lonzo Ball missed that clash and is just questionable for the clash against his former side, but the Pelicans may not need him.

As mentioned, the Lakers are depleted and struggling on offense because of it. This seems like a clash where they won’t be able to score enough to last in this one. Throw the Pelicans in a parlay for the night.

Phoenix Suns @ Miami Heat – 8PM ET

After a really impressive stretch that saw them reach as high as fourth in the East, the Miami Heat have dropped their last three games and are struggling to piece it together on both ends of the floor. Things don’t get any easier against the Phoenix Suns, who are playing some very good basketball right now and just two games behind Utah in the race for the top of the West.

The Suns come into this one after an easy matchup with the depleted Lakers where all five starters played 30 minutes but no one reached 34 in the blowout. Both Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton dropped 26 points while Chris Paul had an 11 point, 10 rebound and 13 assist triple double.

There is a reason why Phoenix has such an impressive record this season, they have the eighth best offensive rating and an even better fourth best offensive rating. Their opponents tonight are equally as good defensively this season however Miami has just the 25th best offensive rating while scoring the fifth fewest points per game.

Over their three game losing streak, Miami have averaged just 100 points per game, struggling to come together as a unit. Sunday afternoon saw the Heat drop their second straight to Indiana, falling 106-109 in overtime. Bam Adebayo had a game high 29 points along with 10 rebounds and three blocks while Jimmy Butler had 21 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists but the exceptional performances from the duo weren’t enough to keep a lacklustre Heat unit in the game.

Miami has to turn things around eventually however we don’t see it happening against Phoenix tonight. The Suns have too many pieces on both sides of the ball for Miami to score enough points to be competitive in this one. Both Mikal Bridges and former Heat player Jae Crowder are strong enough on defense to slow the Heat down while anyone of Booker, Ayton or Paul could go off for Phoenix.

Philadelphia 76ers @ Golden State Warriors – 10PM ET

In what was supposed to be an exciting spectacle between two of the league’s best with a pair of MVP contenders leading the way is no more. Joel Embiid remains sidelined for the Philadelphia 76ers while Steph Curry will miss his third straight game for the Golden State Warriors.

Philly have remained competitive without the former MVP frontrunner in the lineup, going 4-1 since he was injured, including an impressive overtime win in New York last time out. Tobias Harris had a rough shooting night but still managed to score 20 points while Shake Milton was top scorer for the team with 21 points off the bench.

The team shot 46.3% from the field and a handy 44% from deep in the win, something they’ll need to do again if they are to pick up another road win. The East leading Sixers are just an average team when on the road this season but have won their last three when travelling and come up against a weak Golden State side here. The Warriors only managed to split their two games in Memphis and are now just 1-3 when their star doesn’t play.

Saturday night saw the Warriors lose to the Grizzlies 103-111, all despite holding a two point halftime lead. Jordan Poole has really stepped up in Curry’s absence, scoring a game high 26 points for the Warriors while Andrew Wiggins added 20 points and nine boards.

Without Curry, we don’t see how Golden State can be competitive in this one. The Sixers now have the second best defensive rating in the league and will be able to slow down any of the Warriors that step up in this clash. Look for Harris, Milton and Ben Simmons to lead the Sixers to another impressive win here.

Brooklyn Nets @ Portland Trail Blazers – 10PM ET

The Brooklyn Nets begin a short three game road trip against the Portland Trail Blazers tonight, but they have the odds stacked against them with Kyrie Irving not joining them on the trip. That means that James Harden is the lone star on the team and he will have a perfect opportunity to further his MVP case against Damian Lillard and the Blazers.

Portland had their three game winning streak snapped by Dallas on Sunday night, getting blown out 92-132. After the Blazers jumped to a three point lead after the first quarter, they were outscored 39-76 in the middle two periods and never had a chance. Lillard led the team with just 19 points, but they will be looking to recapture their impressive form from before this game in order to compete here tonight.

After a disappointing performance and shock loss in Orlando, Brooklyn bounced back with a 113-106 home win over the Wizards. Irving top scored for the team in that clash with 28 points and adding seven rebounds, six assists and three steals while Harden had an equally impressive night with 26 points, eight assists, five boards and three steals.

Brooklyn are just 2-2 in games where Harden plays without Irving and Durant this season, with their two wins both coming on the road. Can he lead them to another win tonight in Portland? Unfortunately we don’t think so. The Blazers have a bevvy of athletic wings that they can throw at Harden to slow him down while the Nets will struggle to slow down Lillard, McCollum and the even Blazers attack.
